Backstreet Boys star AJ McLean has defended Britney Spears, labelling the troubled singer a “very talented, hardworking young woman”.
McLean admitted that he felt sorry for Spears after watching her performance at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, which was dubbed an “embarrassment” by many critics.
However, he insisted that Spears’ ability to bounce back should not be underestimated, telling DS: “I think if she really puts her mind to it and stays focused and stops going out and kind of allowing herself to be easily distracted, she can do it.
“She’s a freakin’ trooper. I think she’ll be fine… I think she’s a very talented, hardworking young woman.”
Rapper 50 CENT has hit back at KANYE WEST for criticising BRITNEY SPEARS' lacklustre performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, insisting the hip-hop star should not take out his anger on the troubled singer. West recently slammed MTV's decision to let Spears open Sunday's (09Sep07) awards ceremony ahead of himself, claiming the Toxic hitmaker was "not ready" to make her pop comeback. But 50 Cent believes West is just jealous of all the attention Spears has been receiving. He tells American DJ Ryan Seacrest: "(West) was upset, he's not used to being recognised. Period. "Kanye expressed that he felt that Britney shouldn't be actually opening the show - almost like he forgot that Britney Spears sold 50 million records. She did. "He is not thinking about her full body of work. She deserved to headline the show better than anybody else that was on it - even in the state that she is in."

though the new album sucks, I praise him for not being an ass like Kanye, but again he still doesn't deserve #1.
