Discussion: Are women biologically designed to be motherly?

it's argued that women are biologically designed to be more motherly and caring.

evidence such as the points below would back this up:

female animals look after their babies, so it might be instinct from birth.
women create breast milk so maybe they're designed to be the nurturer.
born with less capacity to be muscular.

or, do you think women being the caring / motherly is a social construct because men are the dominating gender?

It's a combination of both.

It's a social construct. You don't need to be a woman to be a caring and nurturing person, as shown by multiple gay coupls who take amazing care of their children (adopted or not).

No some women neglect, hurt even in some cases kill their babies. I guess it depends on the person. Males are nurturing and caring too

I think everyone feels that way about children, not just women, but it's just that women have part of their bodies that provide what a child needs.

All adults (male and female) are programmed to have a protective/caring instinct toward infants, especially their own offspring.

That instinct is obviously stronger in some more than others, but that's true across the gender divide.

What I mean is that both men and women feel the need to take care of their kids.

Do women psychologically feel more obligated than men do to take care of their kids?

I don't know, but I'm pretty sure women being caring and motherly has a lot more to do with social constructs than it does Biology.

Women in general and most men are biologically inclined to seek long term partnerships and care for their young.
The reason human babies need so much care compared to puppies and kittens is because they are born earlier than in most other species. If human babies were allowed any more time to develop in the womb, they would be too big for the vaginal canal. So they come out completely defenseless and in need of a mother/father. And because it's important we see those babies out to reproductive age in order for the species to continue, it's common and often necessary for mothers to invest long-term care into their offspring.
