The New York Daily News reports that Justin's paternal grandfather, George Bieber, is unable to work do to a back injury and his wife, Kathy, is straining to support the couple with a factory job. Despite Justin net worth of $110 million, George claims the singer is turning a blind eye to his grandparents' poverty.
"It's like we now live on different planets," the 61-year-old says. "He never calls us, and now I sometimes think he doesn't care."
Justin's mother, Pattie Mallette, raised the pop star as a single mother after she split from Justin's biological father, Jeremy Bieber. In her 2012 memoir, Nowhere But Up, Pattie revealed that the "Beauty and a Beat" singer grew up in poverty. However, it looks like George and Kathy are still living in a "desperate" condition.
"I can't work due to illness, so there is barely any money coming into the house and we only just about get by," George says. "His grandma has a bad back, too, but works like a dog hauling huge bags of paint powder 40 hours a week."
To make matters worse, a tree recently crashed through the roof of George's Ontario home, leaving a hole that has yet to be repaired.
Nevertheless, George claims Bieber doesn't hesitate to splurge on his maternal grandparents.
"For them, nothing seems to be too much trouble, and he buys them new houses, cars, luxury holidays, anything they want," George says. "But for us, nothing. It's hard to imagine the money Justin has, as it's about as far removed from our life as you could possibly get."
