Gwyneth... Her carrier is still going, Iron Man 3 for example. She has an Oscar...
Winona on the other hand... Never won an Oscar, last memorable film she was a part of was Black Swan, other than that NOTHING in the past 10/15 years.

I prefer Winona but Gwyneth's Viola De Lesseps from the Shakespeare movie was excellent.

Iconic? Winona has more iconic moments. Her roles generally are more striking and project a certain look that can be remembered much more.
Doesn't mean she's necessarily better than Gwyneth though.
