First, the article is about DAVID BOWIE, not Gaga, so please
You could at least mention his name in the title.
Second, tabloids, stop insulting Bowie with these ridiculous comparisons to people like Beyonce or Gaga, they are not worth it.

I think Bowie is acknowledged very overtly in the OP, and I even suggested reading the entire article as it's well written. Gaga is just more relevant to ATRL users' interests as thread views/replies repeatedly show, and the author makes a great point that should be discussed. I'm a huge fan of both so I don't understand the hostility.
Second, this isn't a tabloid - get the facts straight before complaining. 3 Quarks Daily has more intelligent and thoughtful writing than most articles posted here, from the likes of Entertainment Weekly and People Magazine.

Well, you are hungry for the hit thread, I got it, but its not right.
And how can be Bowie "acknowledged very overtly in the OP", when you have re-posted a part of an article that is actually ABOUT him?
P.S.: Nowhere in the article they called Gaga the closest thing to a pop titan. They called her the closest thing to a wide-impactful popstar. Even Bowie himself cant be considered a pop titan, since he cant be simply labeled as a pop artist (if you are his fan you know it). Its more fitting label for MJ or Madonna. So the title of your thread is wrong and misleading.

Both rely on shock factor instead of quality music but Gaga is a far more talented artist, obviously. Bowie's abysmal new album is a clear indicator that he's nothing without androgynous outfits and crazy makeup now that he's too old to pull them off.

It's interesting to see how Bowie always changed his appearance and appeal (going from drag-queen to macho fatale with a cigarette) at his will, just like Gaga does now (going from horn-faced alien to perfume-selling sexy diva).

You answered your own question.
PS: Yes, they do implicitly:
We don't seem to have such titans today. Beyonce, maybe. Social media -- so democratic, so pervasive, so accessible -- have led to isolated monad pockets of excitement; nothing ranging wide across the entire culture. Frank Ocean is hardly a hugely impactful phenom, even if he's a black guy who admits to being partial to other guys. Lady Gaga is the closest thing we have to a recent high-and-wide-impact popstar.

Abysmal new album?
And I know commercial success is more indicative of quality to some, so:
Quote:
David Bowie’s new album 'The Next Day' has debuted at #1 in New Zealand, the U.K., Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden and Switzerland a week after its release, and has topped the iTunes chart in over 60 countries across the world. The album is scoring landmarks for Bowie, including his highest-ever chart position in the U.S. (#2), and the title-holder as the fastest-selling album of the year so far in the U.K.
'The Next Day' has already achieved Gold status in the U.K., Austria, France, Ireland, Poland and Sweden, is the musician’s first-ever #1 in Germany, Netherlands, Portugal and Switzerland and is his first #1 album in the U.K., Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland and New Zealand in decades.
‘The Next Day,’ which was written by Bowie and co-produced with long-term collaborator Tony Visconti, also skyrocketed to the top of iTunes charts in over 60 countries across the world after its release.

Gaga is a mess and musically irrelevant. But is still barely relevant to pop culture due to her past glory days.

I like the sound of Titan of Pop much more than any other title.

Girl, don't bother with this delusional Czech mail-order bride. She'll do anything to discredit anything that remotely praises Gaga.
