So, if there's the album...then the app which also includes the album, what will the incentive be for fans to buy both? Which, I assume, is partly the idea.
They could be cheeky and release the standard album first, so all the fans rush to get it, then later release the app with the deluxe version for a decent price so fans don't mind buying it again for the app and bonus.
I'm assuming the app can only count as an album unit if it features the full album, right?

I don't recall whether they counted downloads of Bjork's Biophilia app as album sales, but I'm assuming that if the album is included in full with the purchase of the app then it will be counted as a sale of the album - that is, if iTunes is willing to report app sales to Soundscan. I'm thinking Interscope will get involved in pushing a new rule that will allow this sort of thing.
As far as incentive to buy the app and the album, I'm thinking that the regular edition and the app edition might have a few key differences, life different bonus tracks.

In all honesty, I'm gonna be buying four copies of ARTPOP when it comes out:
1. iTunes digital copy
2. Physical CD (for stereo system)
3. iPad app
4. iPod Touch app (because I imagine there'll be two different versions, like most apps.

Yeah, I doubt Interscope would be pursuing an app if it wouldn't count as an album sale. Plus, they're working with Apple on it...so I imagine the whole point of this is to push a new method of music distribution. Bjork wasn't big enough to carry it and take it to mainstream.
Maybe they'll have the standard album, then within the app have the album featured...but it's more like a soundtrack to the videos/visuals and what not? Is that what Bjork did?

I really think the app is just going to be an immersive experience. ( flashy lights, visuals, maybe an interactive music kinda thing like with Bjork's idk) It may have extras like deluxe songs and stuff but we really need more information. Lemme go look up what she had to say about the app again.

Bjork made it more like a game. Where you moved the visual planet things they created and it changed the sound of the song.

I imagine it will cost around £7/8, like a real album.

I bet the app itself will be free. You can stream the songs there and listen to them (which will count for BB) but you'll also have the option of buying the songs or the whole album through in-app purchases. At least I hope it's like that, it would be the best approach.
