A MAJOR 7.2 magnitude earthquake has struck off eastern Indonesia.
The quake struck Papua land at 1.42pm local time at a depth of 75km, 237km east of Enarotali, the USGS said.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has not issued a tsunami alert: ''Based on all available data a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii.''
Local seismologists had measured the quake at 7.2.
No casualties or damage has been reported yet.
