Facebook, YouTube, TMZ, and Twitter all skyrocketed that year on top of the celebrity meltdown and it just created this perfect storm...I'm not sure if it was the peak, but certainly a peak.

UK tabloid culture was especially vicious in the mid to late 90s and there's more than enough examples both sides of the Atlantic in the 80s.

The interest in celebs is still there though and it'll never die but the glitz and glam and wide-eyed wonder of them just seems to have dwindled to me. I think it has a lot to do with how attainable they are now too.

MTE. 2006/2007 was when celebrity gossip was at its peak... that was right before it all went down hill.

Random nobodies become "famous" every week because they said something funny on a news report or made a 30 second youtube video of them singing badly or whatever. Fame isn't even that hard to reach anymore. You don't even have to be talented to get on TV.

No, we have a few culture celebs, such as Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Snooki, Rihanna, Gaga, Katy, Nicki, Jennifer, Kristin, R-Patz, Taylor Swift/Lautner, Zac, Vanessa, Josh, Amanda ect.

i think it has gotten bigger because of social media.. which is at its hugest peak.. cause some of these human beings now and days are like robots..as soon as they wake up they have to get on these sites to see whats going on in a celebs life.. when they dont have one of their own and cant even afford to pay their bills..

Yes, videos that become viral are popular for the moment and they fade away not long after. Cris Crocker's Britney rant was huge in 2007. But no one talks about him now.
