Don't get me wrong, Katy has always had her share of support on here, but she has more hate than praise on this site. Why is that? It it cause she racks up #1's so easily? Is it cause she discounts her singles? Or are other members just jealous of her success?
Let me start by saying I don't dislike Katy Perry.
I don't think that just because an artist is strapping cupcakes to her breasts that they shouldn't be valued but a lot of what Katy does is very "fluffy". Her songs are good and catchy, but I think they'll age like Baby One More Time and Oops I Did it Again and other bubblegumpop songs from that era. Nowadays, those songs are more ironically good, not sonically good. Of course she has her more mature songs but they aren't the ones that everyone brags about. So if you're not into these types of songs in the moment, you don't really regard them with much esteem.
That mixed with hugely aggrandized statements of where she is in the industry make it so that it's easy to dismiss her. And we all know how easy it is to dislike someone based on the fact that some loud person is proclaiming their fave to be something they are not even close to being.
Because the Teenage Dream era was bigger than every popstar's last era sans Adele. It's a bit of jealousy toppled over the fact that it's easy to drag Katy (discounts, a lot of bad performances, album sales to single sales ratio).
Simple. With a lot of success comes a lot of hate. She made every pop girl her bitch (except Adele) during the TD era. She will get even more hate when she dominates with her next album.
I don't think Dislike Is the right word, I think people(including me) dismiss her quickly. She has done very little that is of significant praise, I also think that when she starts taking herself more seriously musically people will take her more seriously as an artist Just My 2 cents.
