Those sorts of things are possible. In the UK once they had kind of the opposite, where a week where one days worth of sales was accidentally counted twice in both the singles and the albums chart. Rihanna's album Loud was #1 that week with ridiculously high sales, and Rihanna tweeted about it (obviously), and then it turned out to be a mistake and they decreased the sales.
I'm sure charts all around the world have mistakes like these occasionally. I think it's good that they correct them rather than pretend they did nothing wrong.
