Celeb News: Nicola Formichetti Leaves Mugler

After two and a half years as the creative director for the men's and women's collections, Nicola Formichetti is leaving his post at Mugler.

The designer – who famously sent his close friend Lady Gaga (pictured) down the runway at his autumn/winter 2011-2012 show debut – left the French fashion house "by mutual agreement," according to WWD.

"Nicola has accomplished our original mission of bringing his energy to the brand," said Joel Palix, president of Clarins Fragrance Group and director general of Mugler, in a statement. "With his talent for communication and understanding of modern imagery and design, Nicola has been instrumental in attracting a new audience which is undeniably crucial for the future strategy of the house. He will be a historical part of the Mugler legacy and known as the force that catapulted us forward."

The brand is expected to reveal its future plan shortly and Formichetti is yet to comment on the news.

I realize they're moved away from the sleek, surreal futurism the original Mugler became famous for, but honestly I was so unimpressed by Nicola's contributions.

Does he and Gaga still work together? I remember they were inseparable during the beginning of the BTW era but after a while I didn't really see them together anymore. I hope they didn't have a falling out.

costumes ? Nicola's work are not costumes they are more in RTW.

This is my house. And I won't allow the disrespect. I kicked him out of the House of Mugler because let's be honest, he never really resurrected nor revolutionized the brand. I hired him to bring to Mugler a dose of modernity and high fashion without losing its classic touch and he knew very well that if those weren't met, the guillotine will drop on his neck. ALAS
