This month, Lavigne became the first foreign artist ever to sell one million copies of each of her first three albums in Japan. She sold more than two million copies of her debut album, more than 1.5 million copies of her second album, and now more than a million of her latest album, including 288,000 imported copies and 716,000 units of a Japanese edition that was released here in April. The first single from her new album, Girlfriend, has been downloaded more than two million times to Japanese cellphones

Avril has been nominated in the 2007 annual EMAs. She's nominated in the categories Best Solo Artist, Most Addictive Song, Best Headliner and Best Album....So yeah quite a few!Av has never won an EMA and last time she was nominated it was in 2004. I attended the show that year (it was in Rome) and unfortunately she lost the 2 awards she was nominated for.
This time if we all vote for her she has more chances to win since there are far more nominees in each category and probably the votes will be more distributed and not focused on a single artist. To vote you simply have to click on the category, on the artist and then click vote.
REMEMBER: YOU CAN VOTE MORE THAN ONCE, CLICK THE "VOTE" BUTTON UNTIL THE POP-UP SAYS YOU HAVE REACHED THE MAXIMUM VOTES!
The cerimony will be held in Munich on 11.1.2007

TOKYO — It's easy to overlook: just a small red maple leaf on the cover of popular CDs in Japanese shops. But it's a rare symbol of hope for Canadian artists whose domestic industry has been devastated by piracy and slumping sales.

Lavigne has made a big effort to reach her Japanese audience. In addition to several tours of Japan, she used a manga novel and several anime shorts to promote her latest album, primarily to appeal to Japanese fans. Japanese was among eight languages that she used to sing the chorus of alternative recordings of her Girlfriend hit single.
