Listening to MSNBC and they said the justices want to strike down prop 8.
The problem is that the justices don't want gay marriage legalization to apply outside the state of California. They said by legalizing gay marriage they would be punishing other states. At the same time they want to allow California and the 9 other states to continue to allow gay marriage.
If they side with marriage equality, but avoid imposing their ruling across states...surely any individual state debate over marriage equality from then on would have a pretty f*cking strong case if SCOTUS sides with them? I mean, how the hell can *insert state* disagree with the Supreme Court on constitutional law?

I think it's time for the moral question to be asked. Why don't they want all the states to have it legalized? How can anyone stand in front of thousands of people and deny the equality and love between two people who care about each other? How can anyone give a speech in front of people opposing it? I can't even comprehend that fact.

I agree.
The supreme justices are fearful of making a huge historical decision that would effect all states. They just want to limit the striking down of prop 8 to California. In my opinion that is not addressing the problem at all. It's going to cause further confusion leading another trail most likely in another state to the supreme court. The justices need to be strong and make a tough but a right decision.
