I read your whole post. I just felt what I said was all that needed to be said.

Celine wasn't big in the US until they marketed her as a "White Whitney". They gave her big ballads, like Whitney was known for, shopped her to the adult contemp. audience, like Whitney, and blended it with a contemporary pop sound, like Whitney to appeal to a young crowd.

I think Whitney is viewed as ore legendary than Mariah because she's [a] the one who broke racial barriers and [b] she's dead. It's sad though because Mariah eclipsed Whitney in every single thing [minus performing obvs.] Mariah is more successful, a better singer, songwriter, producer and [as of late] actress than Whitney ever was.

Whitney for now but 30 years later Mariah will be considered as a bigger legend because her voice is incomparible. There are a lot of whitney-sounding singers there but nobody ever sounded as good as Mariah.

None of that has anything to do with being legendary. Legend status is about influence.

BTW, Whitney Houston was viewed more legendary when she was alive. Her death did not add to her legend status, because the credentials were already there. Some of you love to rewrite history.
