The Bible doesn't give a single detail of Jesus' physical description. We don't know if he had brown hair or blue eyes, dark skin or light skin, or whether he was tall or short. It is clear that in God's Word the physical appearance of Jesus is not an issue or focus. That doesn't seem to be the case for Diogo Morgado who plays Jesus in the History Channel's hit miniseries, The Bible. The actor's appearance spurred a #HotJesus trend worldwide on Twitter, with Tweets like: "So I'm watching The Bible. And the grown Jesus makes his appearance and I'm like #HotJesus!!"
Diogo Moragdo, who plays Jesus in the series, is a well-known actor in his native Portugal with a career that spans more than 16 years in TV, film and stage productions. Outside of Portugal he was a virtual unknown until now. His role as Jesus in The Bible has thrust him into the limelight with much chatter about his looks. While some expressed disappointment that producers Burnett and Downey chose to go with a white Jesus instead of a more ethnic looking actor, the good-looking actor spurred a #HotJesus trend worldwide on Twitter. In an interview with USA Today, Morgado was asked about the #HotJesus trend.
"I take it as a compliment obviously, but I'm waiting for the good stuff. The good stuff for me…if somebody just napped me on the shoulder saying 'look you did a pretty good job.' And that's what I'm waiting for, and that's what I'm hoping. Something like this more than anything, something like playing Jesus for me, if I only I can have one person go straight at me and say, 'look you touched me and you brought me something I thought I lost it.' That would be my best compliment." -- Diogo Morgado USA Today
Life-changing role
While viewers look at Morgado's role as Jesus from the outside in, the actor told NewYorkDailyNews.com that playing the part of Jesus changed his perspective on life. “I definitely got more aware that we need to be good persons.”
