Can't believe this thread got so many views
But let me say two things:
1) For all the athiests here that think religion is the reason for corruption or mistratment on Earth, blame humanity. The idea of religion is supposed to bring people together, not make wars.
2) Everyone's views deserve to be respected. Don't bash this kid because he has a right for standing up for himself, as the assignment was offensive, and completely unnecessary. Imagine if your teacher told you to write the word 'Homosexuality' or 'racial equality' on your paper and stomp on it? I know I would be offended. Even if i wasn't gay or for racial equality, I would show respect and not do the assignment.
