Haha dont jump at my throat just yet, hear me out. We all know Jay - z has his own style of rapping, thats mainly what has set him apart from the others, the way the words flow out of his mouth-sorta like Shakespeare and Iambic-pentameter. He just has an aura when rapping that makes us fall in love with him.
So then, after going to a club with Nick and some friends, I heard Lip Gloss in its entirety, and then later that night, her remixes of Girlfriend and Umbrella. She has been out a very short time and it seems she is putting out a lot of great material (even things that arent "hits") and I was thinking about why. Sure, fresh, new, faces are always gonna get hits in the RnB and Rap community but she seems to be more than that. The way she rhymes reminds me a lot of Jay-z and I know you can say, "how dare you compare her to one of the greatest of all times?" But if you listen to her, and listen to him, they spit out words with a very similar rate and emphasis.
I really think she is here to stay and eventually may be taken seriously (I admit having a name like Lil Mama may make it hard to truly succeed in music but I think the talent she has shown thus far will push her through scrutiny. I personally am not a huge rap fan, but I think we all acknowledge Jay as a top in his field, and I think her attributes make her similar to him in style and whatnot. PLUS I heard a live performance of hers and believe it or not, she sounded great....just think..a rap LIVE performance that sounded good, rare much?
What do you all think? Have you noticed this with her or am I just crazy?
