Britney Targeted in Child Abuse Investigation

TMZ has learned Britney Spears is being investigated for possible child abuse.

An unscheduled hearing was held today at L.A. County Superior Court. Present -- Britney's lawyer, Dennis Wasser, K-Fed's attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, and a lawyer from the Los Angeles County Counsel who is assigned to the dependency court.

We do not know the specifics of the allegations but we're told the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services is conducting an active investigation.

A hearing in the custody case has been scheduled for Sept. 4, which will be a follow up to today's appearance.

A rep for Britney did not immediately return our request for comment

Seriously, people will do anything to get on her back. Didn't someone just confirm not to long ago that she was a good mother and she treated them with lots of love?

It's like a yo-yo, we go back and forth with all these rumors. Next week, I'm sure an article will come out, regarding the truth, about how Britney is NOT a bad mother and she treats them like angels.

Just leave the girl alone, so she can make the biggest comeback in HISTORY. I'm sure this article, too, ties in with the article about how her kids abused and broke her dogs leg.

Whenever Britney's talked about in news stories, it's always up and down with this girl...

Frankly, people will do anything to make her freak out.

This story is sad for two reasons.

1: Two children's lives may be in danger.
2: No good mother (which Britney probably is, despite everything going on) wants to be accused of Child Abuse. It must be such a depressing weight to carry around, if people think you abuse your children.

i don´t think anyone doubts the fact she really loves her kids...the question, which is impossible for anyone of us to answer, is wheter she´s suitable for upbringing them on her own and if all the rumours in the tabloids are true, exaggerated or not,....its two totally different things...
