It seriously seems that way. All the pop girls always act bisexual, it's so confusing. Girls always compliment each other sexually, while guys don't. Or is it because the macho stereotype guys feel they need to maintain that they don't compliment other guys much? I honestly don't know. Girls also don't feel when they're attracted to someone like 'that' nearly as much as guys do, so they could just be confused.

Now I'm not saying that all lesbianism and female/female affection exists to pander to salacious male interests, but rather it's more comfortably discussed and pursued in the mainstream because it's deemed relatively acceptable my the heterosexist standards by which western culture operates.

Aka, any famous women can come out with relatively little fanfare (especially if she's young and attractive). But men coming out tends to raise a lot of critical discussion. I think most recently it was Frank Ocean's coming out where that 'critical discussion' leaned towards a more accepting and tolerant view.

But generally in western culture, men are taught from a very young age that male/male affection is a no-no. It's a train of thought constantly expressed to them through interaction with others and the media as they grow older and are taught to see femininity and homosexuality as something below them. As something 'other' and less than masculinity. It creates a very complex web of repression wherein men that aren't exclusively straight are not comfortable admitting to themselves (let alone the rest of the world) their own desires.

No, I wish. But seriously, girls may feel more comfortable complimenting other girls on their looks because it's not seen as "gay" like if a guy complimented another guy. Girls can get touchy feely and call their close friends "girlfriends" and nobody bats an eye. That doesn't mean they're all bisexual. They just know they won't get flack for it like a guy would.

Women are more emotional creatures; they're looked at as the "nurturers" of the species (just this here is a reason for it's consent), and after being conditioned as the "weaker sex" after all these years, there's always been a sisterhood mentality and alliance projected from us. Given that, it's become not so out of the norm for women to act so casually intimate towards each other. Some straights say it's all in fun and others do so because of the longtime bond/trust they have with each other, but that doesn't mean it'll translate into them actually pursuing a serious romantic relationship with each other and willing to endure all the other aspects that come with the drama of a lesbian/bisexual relationship. That's a whole 'nother off topic story.
