The thing is though (and this is a clichéd thing to say), almost every rapper has a song like this where he declares himself great and whatever else. But I've NEVER once heard anyone hate on that. There is most definitely a double standard and we shouldn't get so mad that Beyonce does it if we are also not going to get mad at anyone else.

How many ppl are on the lvl of Beyonce far as respect goes, this woman performs at The White House? Not many. I feel she's above and too freaking talented to be making songs like this. Leave that to the girls who are trying to get where she's at.

You're right it is a song, but when others do things like this most of you (maybe not you) don't view theirs as just a song.
|
Lol at tasteful How exactly is "Diva" more tasteful than this? And the Beyhive don't drag people for things they say in their songs but for the way they act in life (twitter, instagram etc). Are you saying Beyoncé acts ratchet on twitter? Or just give me an example of a song that the Beyhive bashed just based on the lyrical content. I'm waiting.

Y'all are doing the MOST. First of all I'm SURE Bey knew this would be controversial and gave no ****s. Did y'all not watch LIBAD?
Secondly, people mostly love the songs. The reaction is much better than RTW. The songs are hot regardless.
Thirdly, the critics love the songs. They say they're weird, and weird is good. Bey's a genius.
This will KILL urban radio, and I expect a pop single to come out next. Also DEATH @ anyone thinking the whole album will be like these two songs. She's not gonna have a whole album full of this. She never has.

I have no idea but it seems like it does.
@Pulse, you remind me of the people that bashed Bey for performing at the White House and then going at her husband's concert and performing SL/Diva. It caused such an uproar because at that time too, she was too big, too respected to perform those kind of songs in those outfits and it was disrespectful that she did it just after singing "At Last" at the inauguration.

I said there's nothing wrong with her singing a song about her status and haters. FOH with people bringing up Mrs. Obama and acting like she won't associate with her now bc of this song.

OMG. Is it that serious?
And degrading women? The reach but I'm happy her releasing snippets got people talking so much.

I don't like Diva, but I can say it's much lighter than BD/IBO. They do it for songs and on twitter/IG, rather if it's on a song or social media it's still an "act" (ratchet). Me, I think B is above making songs like IBO/BD.
Who's to that person is acting ratchet on instagram just for fun. But hey, you have your views and I have mines.
The "act" ratchet needs to go.

I'm not bashing her, I think she's too good to be singing about some bow down bit*h, I expect something that from Nicki or some new chick trying to make in the game or some unsigned hoe, not BEYONCE, the Queen B, the 17 time grammy award winner, she's above it. That's just me.
I'm just waiting on the first single.

She's been getting backlash all year over stupid ****, she might as well release something that is truly controversial.
I think the criticism got to her a little... The stuff about her pregnancy, no big hits during "4", the "lip-syncing", the stuff about her documentary... These might just be buzz singles, but they feel pretty honest and this is how she's feeling.
She should be allowed to sing whatever the hell she wants without having to apologize for it.

She can sing whatever the hell she wants to.
She has earned that right after busting her ASS for us for 16 years.
It's been a long time and she's gained her artistic freedom to express herself in any way she wants.
She said it herself, she can sing a song about how much she hates herself one day, and how boss she is the next, and who's to stop her from doing so?
It's ridiculous. These songs were her clearly goofing around, but at the same time being serious about getting her respect.

She'll be get that for rest of her life, so it's pointless to address it. I agree she may have but, haters will be haters they won't respect her anymore or any less, it won't change people's op on the whole "fake bump" or the whole "lip-sync" scandal. Let the talent do the talking. She's above it.

It's not about changing people's opinions. There comes a certain point when you've just had enough of people disrespecting you and you feel like you have to put them in their place. We do this when we fight or argue, even if we know it won't change anything. I guess she needed people to know. Most people won't like it, but it's her right.
If I was in charge I wouldn't have let her release "Bow Down", but as a fan, i'm glad she did.

I think some people are probably worried if this will effect the album like RTW did?!?
It really isn't that serious though.

Some ppl HAVE to do that. BEYONCE doesn't. She is Beyonce for crying out loud you don't have to sing about bow down bit*h when you're GREAT, which she is. I feel she's above it and too talented of an artist and ICON to make crappy songs like that, obv the rest of you feel differently, which is cool.
