So,I didn't think anyone would think those assholes got too heavy a sentence, but I have been proved wrong by multiple facets of media. Not even just good ol' boys with an internet connection. "Sophisticated" news channels, like CNN, have even started to make it seem like these boys did nothing wrong and should get their life back. Do you think they deserve more or less?Discuss!

These two boys who raped a girl.

Ooh. That. I don't know. It seems to be a weird case. It wouldn't have become such a big spectacle, or even a case. I find it suspicious that the girl didn't file a report until people online started a big fuss. It makes me wonder if she was so against it all, until it became such a big, embarrassing story, and then she claimed it was rape.

They were tired as Juveniles and they got the most they could get. I do hope when they are released they become productive members of society the killer of my niece got a second chance and threw it away. We forgave him and moved on with our lives it's the best thing to do.

These boys drugged and gang raped a passed out 16 year old girl, and took to the internet to brag about what they had done on twitter and youtube videos.

The fact the media wants to spin it to look like these boys are the victims and completely ignore the actual rape victim and how her life is ruined is completely infuriating.



The fact that there are so many unreported rape cases is because we live in a culture where the rapists are lauded as victims of the law and the actual victims are made to look like they deserved it. The rape victims are shamed and called things from *****s to ****s, to (in this case) life-ruiners. The fact of the matter is NO ONE DESERVES TO BE RAPED. No matter what she was wearing, how drunk she was, how well she knew the rapist - NO MEANS NO.

If it were up to me rapists would be castrated in addition to jail sentencing.

She was unconscious when the attack occurred because they drugged her. She could not give consent therefore it's rape. She was probably embarrassed or ashamed because there were pictures taken and the boys and other people at the party were making fun of her. Many many rape cases go unreported each year, it doesn't mean the victim wasn't against it, we live in a rape culture where victims of sexual assault are still belittled and looked down upon as if they did something wrong. They're simply too afraid to go to the police for multiple reasons, one of them being they fear they will not be believed.

They're underaged and even though I would be for them to get a longer sentence, I believe that people under a certain age should get leniency so that they will not be condemned for the rest of their lives and can learn from their mistakes. This leniency helps many younger people in ways that many people might not immediately see from sensational news.

However, something should seriously be done to the parents who owned the home that the incident occurred in, the adults that distributed alcohol to the kids and anyone involved in the cover up of the crime. Ultimately, these two boys are just the surface of the problem in Steubenville, the city is a big mess and I cannot wait until the cancers are weeded out and charged. I'm pretty sure more incidents like this has happened in the city previously and was covered up by authority figures.

Also, this incident can be a huge alert on how society favors the Athletes, Singers, Actors and Celebrities compared to people who help society in better ways. However, I'm not getting into that.

I do not believe that a rapist can ever move on from what they did or change. Being a certain age doesn't have anything to do with it, we all know from a very young age that forcing sex on somebody else is wrong. I don't care if the boys were 14, rape is rape and they knew better. You can't be a good person if you raped somebody. You can't. Your life is basically over.

Not hard enough

That's a really harsh thing to say. People make mistakes and there's always an opportunity for people to learn from their sins and move on with their lives. Sure, what they did was horrible and they're definitely going to pay for this incident for the rest of their lives (their future football prospects are done, getting a job or even going to a decent university will be a pain), but ultimately, at 16 and 17, you definitely have not matured yet mentally. There was a lot of factors going on and though I'm not making excuses for them, I can see the signs that might have led them to rape the girl.

There's always an opportunity for people to change, but throwing them into prison for whatever exorbitant amount of time at such a young age will cease that opportunity. It's always better to try to help criminals change to be a productive member of society than to throw them into a dank prison like animals. Some people are psychopathic animals though, they have not reached that level. Again, I am 100% not defending their actions or am hating on the girl that was raped, but a little empathy and understanding is something we should all use when forming opinions on such a sensational news story.

They're juveniles. The most they could have gotten is to be jailed until they were 21. What they did is TERRIBLE (I'm only now catching up on this like a week ago) but I'm not sure what else they could have been given? Do you want them to go to jail for life like murderers? They're stupid high school students who did a stupid, horrible thing then spread it out with their egos in the other hand like idiots.

They have to register as sex offenders which will limit them from SO many things in life. That's enough punishment with the 1-2 years in a facility to me. They won't be able to get into any good colleges, employment and living will be strictly limited. The lives they probably pictured is rightfully destroyed, so justice is served.

Well, this is probably here not the case, but at most of the time, rapist were victims too, most of them got abused from early on.

Since the 18 50's we know, we are mostly a product of our surrounding world.

It is certainly not too light.

I wonder if they will even serve the full year, or if some nonsense will be decided that allows them an early release.
