US sales figures for Wii U show the console really struggling over January and February.

Wii U sales hit a low in January and February this year, according to the latest NPD data.

Nintendo's console sold just 57,000 units in January, managing to up that number to 64,000 in February. This is worse than any recorded week for the current-generation consoles (Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3). The Xbox was top of the hardware chart with 302,000.

Wii U sold 3 million by the end of December - a decent launch that outpaced most others in recent history - but sales have since fallen off a cliff as the console has suffered an almost total absence of new releases. Next week (the week after in Europe), Lego City Undercover will be the first significant game to be released for the console in four months.

Overall video game sales are down 25% on where they were last February in the U.S. as the retail market continues to shrink. As ever, though, it's worth pointing out that NPD does not count digital sales, DLC or in-game purchases.

I keep forgetting this thing is out.

They better have some good games lined up for this year!

Flop! Why does Nintendo think those cookie cutter NSMB games will sell consoles? We all got bored of that back in 2010.

Not too much of a suprise when most of the games that are currently out on it suck. Nintendo needs to get out the new Smash Bro game and other games they are known for instead of all of the third party games, cause they sure aren't helping.

And just wait for them to release Mario, Zelda, and Smash Bros. I'm sure there will be a spike in sales.

A MESS

They did it to themselves TWICE. The 3DS AND the Wii U didn't have good games for AGES. I never bought the 3DS, and I won't buy the Wii U until Mario Kart U comes out.

People don't like that big ass controller. As a previous Wii owner I don't want that thing. Another thing may be the fact that their target group is growing up and moving on (I wanted a wii for me and my friends to play games together. Now I want a ps3/4 to play real games)

Plus the games suck

I stan for Nintendo but the Wii U has been a major disappointment and they have made things even worse setting up stupid laws about +18 content and not optimizing the terribly slow OS the console has.

That's what you get when you don't do things well.

The controller is too big, and the fact you can play the game once the console is switched over really just makes me think that people are going to think it's a portable gaming version of the Wii that can connect to the TV.

SNES - Did well, but failed to meet predicated sales.
N64 - Win
Gamecube - Good start, failed to meet sales predictions after a while.
Wii - Win
Wii U - And history repeats itself

Plus Sony sold the PS2 throughout the 7th gen console era too as they re-released a new look when the PS3 was out. You went in to store and you could either by a PS3 or a PS2 up until last year. So the Wii is what the PS2 was for Sony tbh. But if the PS4 is handled correctly, I'd say it will most likely be the better selling 8th gen tbh. It has so much potential, because knowing Microsoft who take 10 years to change anything, most likely won't have something as revolutionary up their sleeves like Nintendo or Sony do usually. But Nintendo just haven't made it work this time, especially as you can only have one new controller per console, and the rest are just Wii remotes.

Just save money and buy a Wii without the controller.
I don't think they thought it through at all. People don't buy Nintendo because of the games (apart from Mario, Zelda, SSB). Even then that can't save a console if it isn't interesting (GameCube).
