With the overwhelming success of Disney Channel's "High School Musical 2" on the small screen, it's no secret Disney is itching to ride the wave of success with a big screen sequel.
Gossip reports surfaced today that the planned third movie, is in trouble. Several reports claim that stars Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens are holding out on the big screen version for more money.
When Access Hollywood spoke to Zac last week at the "HSM 2" premiere, he assured us it was something he wanted to do, "A third movie would be a dream come true. Finishing "High School Musical" with a third movie, that would be in theaters, is just sort of a tribute to everything we kind of did here."
At the same premiere, Vanessa told Access Hollywood she had not seen a script yet, but "If it's good of course we are all going to join back in We all have so much fun together. So, why wouldn't we do another one?"
Access Hollywood has confirmed today with their reps that both Zac and Vanessa are still in talks to do the third movie.
Walt Disney Studios today released the following statement; "There is no contractual obligation for any of the cast members to return. That said, we are in active negotiations with all of the principle cast members and are feeling optimistic."
Back in February, Disney announced plans for a 2008 feature film sequel with a Halloween themed dubbed "Haunted High School Musical." Today Disney says they have scrapped plans for the Halloween theme and instead will focus on the senior year of key characters at East High. The original writer from the first two films, Peter Barsocchini, is writing the script. The original producers and director are also on board.
Director Kenny Ortega confirmed to Access Hollywood last week that he is definitely on board too.

i don't know why people hate HSM so much. I mean, there is absolutely NO REASON to hate a movie that is marketed toward an audience between ages 6-11. Seriously, the people who hate it so much are the 19-20 year olds who the movie wasn't even made for

Uh i have always hated High School Musical I don't hate it just because the mods/vets hate it. Not everyone is going to like HSM. I'm not into musicals, so that's why i don't like it, but i'm not going to accuse you of liking it because your entitled to you own opinion & calling me an asskisser just for not liking it was unnecessary, i'm sorry that i offended you for not liking the movie, but you need to learn how to accept other peoples opinions & not only that but i'm being honest.
Even though it is one of the most pathetic & brainwashed franchises on Earth, I'd be asking for more $$$,$$$ as well. I'm glad they're stopping with a 3rd movie.

I do think Zanessa are entitled to more money though. I mean they are the stars of this damn phenomenon. However, if they become too greedy Disney might cut all ties with them and find replacements. It's not like Hilary Duff and Jesse McCartney are selling any albums.

I can't blame them...Disney is making LOADS of money off this franchise, and much like Hilary Duff (who held out on Lizze McGuire spin-offs for more money), they are just making smart decisions. ;p
I can't wait. But I think they should just dump Vanessa. She is the worst part of the films. Of course this is only my opinion.
If they dump Vanessa they loose the best vocalist out of the whole film.
And nobody should be saying Vanessa is getting greedy becuase if you were in her shoes you would want more then 1 million too.
Think about all the money disney makes from soundtracks, movies, & tv shows.
Disney is even starting to take over the music industry.
And the phenomenon and record breaking movie that HSM is I dont think asking for more than 1 million is greedy.
Vanessa is NO DIVA.
Vanessa and the rest of the cast deserve 2 million at the least.
Disney has a rep of being GREEDY themselves.
Lizzie McGuire gave disney channel the most highest ratings they've seen at the time plus a hit soundtrack and movie.
They couldnt give Hilary the star of the show 5 million???
I actually hope Vanessa DOESNT do HSM3 then she wont be asscioted with disney anymore and she can do more mature movie roles.
IMO, Ashley, Zac and Vanessa should be getting paid higher. However, if they pay Vanessa and Ashley 2 million, then they should give the other 3 2 million, too. I do think, though, that Zac deserves much more because he is the star of this movie, and many teens look up to him/idolize him. He is most of High School Musical.
