MADONNA & Anderson Cooper @ The GLAAD Awards! TODAY!
Quote:
Pop music legend Madonna will will appear with journalist, author and talk show host Anderson Cooper on March 16 at the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York.
Cooper and Madonna are longtime friends who have both used their careers to raise support for LGBT people around the globe.
"Madonna has been a passionate spokesperson and longtime supporter of gay rights.
She has embraced LGBT people around the world on many occasions," said GLAAD President Herndon Graddick.
"From speaking out against bullying to raising support for marriage equality, Madonna has always been one of our community's strongest allies.
We are honored to have her stand with GLAAD and Anderson Cooper."
Madonna will present Anderson Cooper with a GLAAD award that recognizes openly gay media professionals.
Madonna has been a vocal advocate for LGBTQ causes: last August on her MDNA tour, she challenged a gay-pride ban in St. Petersburg, Russia, by handing out bracelets and speaking out at her show, which prompted anti-gay activities to sue her for $10.5 million.
The lawsuit was later thrown out.
Madonna also publicly supported New York's Marriage Equality Act in 2011, appeared on Ellen in 2010 to speak against the bullying of gay teens and urged the African nation Malawi to pardon a gay couple arrested in 2009 and convicted on indecency charges.

Anderson Cooper may be a major celebrity himself, but the daytime talk show host and CNN anchor can still get a bit starstruck.
On today's episode of Anderson Live! show, Cooper talked with guest co-host Lisa Rinna about receiving the Vito Russo Award next month at the GLAAD Media Awards.
'I'm incredibly excited,' Cooper said. 'Madonna? Are you kidding me? I sort of don't believe it's true.'
Madonna will be presenting the award on 16 March at GLAAD's award ceremony in New York City.
'I can't believe she's actually going to come and hand me an award,' Cooper said.
His excitement has much to do with the fact that The Silver Fox is a major fan of The Material Girl.
'I went to see three of her concerts this past tour,' he admitted to his audience. 'I'm like the oldest groupie in the world.'
He watched Madonna perform once in Paris and twice in New York - once at Yankee Stadium and once at Madison Square Garden.
