He explained: "My mates are texting me being like 'is it true?' so I said it wasn't - but the fact that people can believe it makes me feel like a bit of a stud, you know?"

Oh Ed - you've always been a stud muffin in our eyes. The Lego House singer went on to admit that actually, he couldn't ever (like ever) date Swift - because she's already been out with one of his best friends, a certain Mr Harry Styles.

"I've got to be honest because one of my best friends did date her. I'm not that kind of guy," he continued. "But the fact that people believed it impressed me a little bit."

Ed also explained the night that started all the rumours - when he was spotted leaving Taylor's hotel at 4am by some wiley types hanging around outside - and apparently, it was all entirely innocent.

"I did go to her hotel, I did stay there 'til four and I did leave in the same clothes," he said. "But I was playing her my new record. It was strictly that kind of thing."
