I stopped paying attention to charts and sales when I was 17. I was a member of IMDB since I was 11, way before I joined any other message board, and that's all they'd talk about when they weren't bashing artists. I stopped getting involved in stanwars back in '08. It's stupid. People are going to think what they want to think.
Anyway, most of my time is spent in the Lounge while I'm here. Seems to be the least messiest area of the board. I ignore mostly all the threads that try to start something. ATRL hasn't ruined anything for me.
Eh, not really. Did it make me dislike the politics of music? Yes. Did it make me dislike certain people? Yes. But if anything, it made me appreciate music a lot more, and I got into many different artists (Azealia Banks, Charli XCX, Lana Del Rey, etc) thanks to ATRL.
No, I take it like it's just a fun game. I act like I hate Nicki Minaj, Lady GaGa, and Beyonce. In all reality I buy some of their music, something that some "stans" don't even do.
Play a game, be a character. At the end of the day you know good music, the music that you like, You judge how you wanna judge.
nope, I just realized that some ppl take their artists and charts way too seriously. So I usually just either laugh or join in when I feel like I have something to say.
Not really, I'm not gonna let someones own opinions on my musical taste phase me, since its one of the most subjective forms of entertainment there is. Everyone has a different taste in what they enjoy.
Charts and success are all nice, but in the end of the day, I'm not clutching onto an album and whispering "Yes, 500k sold first week"
Nope, if anything it's increased my love for music now that I've found people who are as passionate about it as I am.
I dislike ATRL in general due to reasons in the OP, but the people I talk to on here are so in tune with different aspects and genres of music that I'm always exposed to music that I wouldn't have really found if it wasn't for this site.
Once you make peace with the fact that the drags, receipts, shade are all just in good fun you'll see that it's a great place to discover great pop music.
If it weren't for ATRL I would have never considered listening to great albums like The Velvet Rope, Ray Of Light, among others.
not at all. I discovered some new artists I never would have listened to and also re-discovered music I'd forgotten about through ATRL. I just ignore all the stan wars and receipts and sales talk.
