I recently gotten into Phyllis Hyman through a mutual friend who alway emails me classic albums from previous (60s-80s). Well, recently he sent me these five classic Pyhllis songs. I enjoyed them so, I had to head to itunes and purchase her greatest hits album. Her vocals are so strong and vulnerable that it takes you to a place visually unknown. I was so blown away that I had to do further look at her discography and it didn't disappoint either. Such an eccentric body of work with such powerful yet relatable lyrics. Its sad she lost her life due to label woes with Clive Davis sabotaging her for Whitney. You can tell by her later work that she was depressed and used her music to vent. Her work in my opinion is some of the strongest of the 80s in general. She basically captured every single aspect of love and made a soulful, sultry, jazz-tingled music that stood the test of time. No other artist compares to her personality nor music, that is why she was able to bring some of R&B's most innovative albums to the forefront. Some of you may not be familiar with her work but I suggest that you get into it immediately as your missing out on an artist that help further music. Her contribution to music industry may be overlooked but her music can not go ignored. Here are some of her most epic songs, I hope this intrigues you to further listen to her gems.

Lord her albums are such gems. Literally can listen to them all the way through and get inspired. Such a legend!

Yes, Clive entire career is filled with evil, vile handlings to almost all his artists that come through his company. He basically made it hard for Phyllis to get another record deal and then pushed her to suicide. He's a horrible person and his book will clearly be filled with lies to clear his name. So sad Phyllis never got the chance to really dominate as the material was strong + her personality and spook was like no other. Her contemporaries didn't have her distant voice or extremely beautiful face/body. So sad.
