Almost every peer of Gaga (Rihanna, Katy, Adele, etc) were able to slay the charts with a ballad song. Gaga has never released a ballad as a single. Can she do it without the dance influence on the track? Is her musicality alone enough to ensure a hit?
I think so and I guess we'll find out once her album with Tony Bennett is released, but she wouldn't have been successful with the ballads she recorded up to this point
For me personally, 'Lady Is a Tramp' is better than every song on Born This Way, but it's not radio-material. The Jazz sound probably wouldn't work for her, even though she sounds great doing it. She needs a commercially appealing ballad, which she oddly hasn't provided as of yet.
As for Gaga, "Another potential No. 1 candidate?," I added, "Should it be released to radio, a rock-tinged midtempo ballad already familiar to many following its on-tour previews and Haley Reinhart's 'American Idol' cover: Lady Gaga's 'You and I'." I may yet be proven correct twice over, as the song, since released a single, roars 16-6 this week
