F.A.M.E - 872,000 - sure it's plat by now
Fortune - 500k - roughly the same amount as CO
the only album y'all can talk about is Graffiti, which you shouldn't be talking at all when CO can barely scan gold

No shade, but thats all a bunch of bull ****.. You are saying that album sales and awards have nothing to do with being called the "Prince of R&B" ? Girl bye. sit down.
|
The argument I see Frank Ocean's fans throwing in here is that "Frank Ocean has a critically acclaimed album, two grammy's, and a platinum hit, so he MUST be the new p-rince of r&b "
nothing about his material, which is more important than Grammy's, sales, and critical acclaim combined.

The girls are going into that "Frank used his sexuality" for album sales thing, even though A) A Blind Item leaked a month before Frank even came out and alluded that an up and coming R&B star would be admitting his same sex love on his album. B) People keep forgetting that someone at a listening party published an article about Frank and he pronouns on Channel Orange, then it became a big issue, and then Frank posted the letter on Tumblr.
Same song, different day.

Let's not even get into ALL the promo he is has done for this album.

Come correct or don't come at all.

His voice is heard on more than 50% of that song though.
He is credited yes.

For an artist and album that got so much media hype, CO's numbers are actually abyssal. I'm supposed to be impressed by Gold? As much as he's been propped and talked about, that album should be no less than RIAA-certified double platinum. Frank is all hype, by way of stunts. Seriously, what's he gonna reveal before the release of his next album to keep up the press: that he's having a sex change operation?

LOL Frank had better album sales but that's not saying much
and AGAIN, Channel Orange isn't pure R&B so that voids him thee TITLE

And the amount of promo doesn't really matter..we know Chris' album power has been damaged dramatically, but still manages to sell semi-decently with his single sales propping him up.
Sales, Grammy's, and critical acclaim do not make Frank the prince of r&b. His music is stale, monotone, boring, and reductive. And on top of that, not that innovative and or talented either.

Him selling an extra 70k+ is not that big of a difference? and dead at "all the promo" when Chris dropped Fortune, tweeted "buymyshit"and announced a new album one month later. Frank shows up at every award show, gets overhyped to the heavens, goes on stage, sound a mess and sell a few extra copies the next week. Wasn't he even at the Brits? mess. and I'm certain Fortune outsold it on a WW scale.

In what department? He only lacks sales. Frank on the other hand lacks consistency which is worse. I love Channel Orange but it ain't pure R&B

It's valid to my point Frank's material isn't anything special, especially to be crowned as the prince of R&B.

Frank doesn't even like to be labeled R&B, and he doesn't have as many R&B hits as Miguel, so no. Miguel is the closest thing to the R&B Prince at the moment.

Not even close. If there is an 'R&B Prince' at the moment...and I'm not so sure...but if there is, then Miguel is a much better contender to the title than Frank.
Quite frankly, Frank is bland and weird, and he rubs me the wrong way. Miguel is weird too, but at least he's got the voice and a sound that is more conducive, and in line, to the genre. In the meantime, Frank is all hype. If he has any substance, it'll be smothered to death by his hype soon enough and he'll go back to being some underground novelty act. I can see Miguel still being around in five years, even after his hype becomes less fresh. Sort of like John Legend.

And you were saying?
And just because you like "unique" artists doesn't mean you're some music connoisseur. Now go and stan for a Pitchfork-loved album.

And why do people throw this cover to make some kind of point?
Miguel breaks out where?
He got 40k sales for Adork after the Grammys. That's it.
His album didn't get a bump.
He was only nominated for 1 major category compared to 3 for Frank.
CO won over KD in album category....
