It's clear.
Kim was set up by Young money. Kim was vulnerable because in the streets it was already clear that Kim had a raw contract deal...SMH at Biggie and Diddy not looking out for her.
She did a bid in jail and her management game was messed up, her music was not getting spinned on radio and she didn't have her publishing until 2008. She assumed that the bid in jail would give her street cred as she was blasted for going hollywood and the streets would have her back with loyalty. At her peak, she depended on ads and other things to make money while she was hot...the problem was when she was not and IRS put a tax lien on her property.
She went hollywood and had ghostwriters and access to some of Biggie's old material to use and pass off as her own.
After her ghostwriters ratted her out, she started putting together music that was beyond subpar and we started to see the truth. No one bought her material
She scurried over to Young Money/Birdman's people thinking they would look out for her.
She later claims that they were doing business together to get her over there and then they wanted to steal her swag to give to Nicki.
Me thinks that they actually tried to work with her since it wasn't even confirmed that Nicki would be working with YM until a year later (as Nicki had a bidding war with Warner and another company) and they realized the chances of making money off of Kim with a tarnished image, dreadful look and being considered hasbeen was slim to none. It didn't help that her ensuing legal issues and the thud that you could hear from no one giving a f about the songs she released after getting out of jail were quite apparent as far as considering her a hasbeen with baggage. As Nicki and Drake were on the rise, they (Young money) made sure Kim never saw the two of them.
When Nicki was with the dude that Kim is with, she payed homage to Kim and was doing over songs on freestyle of Kim, Foxy, Missy, LL etc. Nicki parlayed that into serving shock value like Kim but YMCMB saw that she was versatile and could switch it up once she got people's attention. So she went from a Kim/Foxy hybrid to being more sassy and interesting like Eve/Missy.
Kim first started throwing shade saying Nicki wasn't paying homage. After various youtube clips came out with Nicki paying homage she changed up her schtick to say that Nicki is tryin "TO ACT" like she created this lane or whatever. This is bull because plenty of people as well as Kim in the mid 90s stated that Biggie told her what her image would be and she didn't come up with it themselves. Biggie saw the late 80s/90s female rap girls that never took off had these playboy bunny images with ghost written rhymes that men wanted them to speak on. For men, by men nothing about empowering women. Biggie drew from that for Kim's image. note: I remember waking up at 2am just to watch those females in playboy outfits rapping about sex and money.
Kim not being smart didn't realize that it was YM that played her not Nicki. So Kim started scraping for little things in the summer of 2010 like shots that Nicki bust (subliminally). The rap game is filled with subliminals and people coming for the top spot but Kim for some reason felt she was different. Plus, a hit dog will holler so if you weren't writing rhymes and broke you wouldn't be offended. Missy didn't get offended, Foxy didn't get offended and neither did Eve. Why because they wrote their own rhymes and 2 out of 3 were not broke.
Instead of accepting that YM realized they couldn't do anything with her she tried to make it seem like they were trying to steal her 2008/9 swag (it was so valuable) because Nicki wouldn't be anywhere without talking about her slippery cookie. LOL.
Kim saw that Nicki wasn't another flash in the pan novelty female rapper and she was hustling...learning from the mistakes of the past.

Lack of versatility/Oversexed image that was destined for a short shelf life: Kim
Nicki took from the best looks wise and image wise (Kim, foxy, eve), took from the best business and brand wise (queen latifah, missy elliott) and modernized it with her own swag
Nonetheless, the shade Kim threw made Nicki take it to heart because she was shocked kim would take it that far...look at her acceptance speech at 2010 Bet awards. After she saw Kim was using her for publicity she decided to teach her a lesson...when you don't have a leg to stand on...sit down. She made roman's revenge and monster for buzz for her album. Nicki taunted her and dangled a carrot in her face to throw Kim off base and have Kim focus more on Nicki then serving Hard core album realness (which could not happen again anyways but still...her focus could have made it close to that).
Kim continued her pull for the GP support and it was clear that they were over her as an artist but here for her for entertainment alone. She felt as though Nicki's haters can turn into her fans since Nicki from the start was such a polarizing figure. Not failing to realize that some of the reasons people hate Nicki are similar to the reasons they are not here for Kim.
Kim thought releasing a mixtape on Valentine's which was when Nicki wanted to release her debut would do something. She lied about selling 113k first week. I still think that she might have made 113k by selling 11,300 copies or whatever the breakdown and tried to run with it and it backfired. Keys irrelevant azz sold her out stating that by selling out she ghost wrote black friday.
The sad part is Nicki is mega successful because she was smart enough not to go the Kim route (talking about oversexed things, superficial stuff). Instead, talked about things that a mass of people find more relatable (Kim would not put out a Right thru me, Fly, Save me). She incorporates more Missy and Eve in her image now more than ever. Basically, nicki played the game to get on, then switched up and instead of crossing over later in her career she decided to do it on her first album (blending hip hop, dance, pop, r&b). Nicki will go much further-forget out the records she breaking with her songs.
Kim's legacy is now tarnished because she let her emotions get the best of her and now her whack rhymes...which I believe is not done by ghostwriters (clearly) showing people that without Biggie, ghostwriters and a management team...the truth speaks for itself 
If she would have thought twice, Kim would have realized that once Nicki went mainstream she was not at all trying to take Kim's spot. She actually went out of her way to distance herself from 08' nicki. Kim could have went the hip hop route and Nicki would own hip POP and kim could have a glimmering of a shot to own hip hop.
Nonetheless, Nicki remained unbothered scoring a #1 rap song and top 10 raps songs as well as a#1 album.
Kim continued to seethe, develop stomach ulcers and foam at the mouth. Nicki continued to bust little shots at Kim taunting her to teach her a lesson (Did it on em', till the world ends remix, y.u. mad, I aint thru etc.).
Then Nicki took it WAY TOO FAR. She already won and then she faced backlash as she started to let it go to her head and she unleashed her roman character with Roman In moscow and most notably Stupid hoe.
The video is genius but the song feels like someone bragging about winning afterwards. It's a turn off.
Kim thought she could be able to revive herself from Nicki's backlash and after 2 years of talking about Nicki she started flip flopping. On 106 & park, she didn't want to talk about Nicki. On the Charlamagne show she dedicated 16 minutes to it.
Nicki continued to win awards (BMAs, AMAs, VMAs, PCAs, EMAs, etc.).
All in all, what Nicki said to Angie Martinez came to fruition and it's a shame.
Kim should be mad at Young money more than Nicki but she is like that dumb girl that gets mad at the other woman who either did nor didn't know she was the other woman yet let's it slide with the man that KNEW all along what he was doing.
She played herself thinking her bs queen of rap title which actually should belong to Missy would be enough to get her in with YM and YM knew they couldn't make money off of her and there best bet was to get the up and comers Drake, Nicki and tyga. Nothing personal, just business.
Nicki continues to brand owning her publishing, merchandisings deals, lip gloss line, clothing line, fragrance line, advertisements, #1 albums, millions of albums and singles, breaking almost all of the records, HEADLINING her own tour with sold out shows and collecting 12M for AI and 10M for new years' eve shows. Nicki's brand s strong and kim is salty because she never got to achieve that.
In reality, the purpose is to learn from the best, make it your own and do it better than they did. Only the broke and struggling get mad. Missy's 250M net worth remains unbothered by Nicki's accomplishments.
