That today's technology and advances had made it so is cool but art works a lot with emotions and what's inside an artist, those kind of silly moves will affect directly art such as business models affect music output.
You cannot mess with how the evolution of society transformed media/art/music/etc consumption, just evolve with it, such as YouTube, that lets people listen to music for free but still makes money from advertisements. You can't try to change the business model to what it was before, you need to evolve with it and let me get another thing straight:
If someone "steals" a copy of your work, deal with it, you must be happy someone is giving you attention. Because attention also costs money, if a work is bad I would need to get paid for my time wasted, but of course that'll never be, right?
A true artist, if he/she had all needed, wouldn't need so much money to be an artist. Point in fact, fame and fortune is able to kill an artist's talent so let's not pretend those people know what they're doing 'cause they're not.
The business model needs to keep evolving and people evolve with it, that's what society learnt after the Great Depression.

I'm sorry, but that's all bonk.
I know an artist who used to be on a major, and also 2 writers. They love doing what they do, but they have bills to pay, like everyone else.
Business models may need to evolve, still doesn't make it right to steal a product.
