"Wilhelm Richard Wagner (pron.: /ˈvɑːɡnər/; German: [ˈʁiçaʁt ˈvaːɡnɐ]; 22 May 1813 – 13 February 1883) was a German composer, theatre director, polemicist, and conductor primarily known for his operas (or, as some of his later works were later known, "music dramas"). His compositions, particularly those of his later period, are notable for their complex textures, rich harmonies and orchestration, and the elaborate use of leitmotifs—musical phrases associated with individual characters, places, ideas or plot elements. His advances in musical language, such as extreme chromaticism and quickly shifting tonal centres, greatly influenced the development of classical music; his Tristan und Isolde is sometimes described as marking the start of modern music."
18 # singles is a lot and you have to remember a big chunk of how a song goes #1s is how popular the public makes it (sales/streaming/parodies <- lol) and we have no impact on grammys.
So I'd rather have 18 #1s than 18 awards given by biased old men in a room taking bribes to see who they award next.
this whole stupid freaking discussion just comes down to two things
do you want to be respected by your music industry peers vs do you want to be popular with the GP
!!!!
It depends on your values as an artist...!
like I had already said twice
@iHypeMusic, his awards aren't meant for everyone, they're meant for him. It doesn't matter if you know him or not. And I was telling you to look at like2throw's post above yours because it had to do with who votes at the Grammy's: not music critics, industry peers.

and some have varying opinions, so It just depends on the artist, and the genre.
You can still be respected by your peers without having 18 Grammys, and you can still be popular without having 18 #1's. A combination of both is preferred. In the end this thread is just a thinly veiled attempt of Aretha's 18 Grammys and single #1 vs. Mariah's 18 #1's and 5 Grammys. I know which one I would rather have, but that's only my opinion.

IHM, not too much on Alison Krauss I use a couple of her songs. But, still anyone who tries to make a case saying people should hold her to some extremely high standard is reaching. Bluegrass is stripped down Country with more instruments incorporated, nothing revolutionary. Her music sounds sort of like Barbra Stresiand songs with actual percussion instruments involved. Alison is also like the only popular Bluegrass artist, so her having all those Grammys is really just a testament to the statement that the Grammys are a popularity contest.
1. Most people including me don't know who Richard Wagner is, so does it matter?
2. I've never heard of Bluegrass, and 2 musicians respecting you is not very far for 27 Grammy's.
3. I don't even understand that, nor does 95% of people.
4. Cute fact, but what influence does he have now to anyone who doesn't play the Piano and probably has to know about him?
So, you were either born in 97 going on 16 this year or turned 15 and born in '98 and you're gonna make statements about G0D her impact? I am DONE. You're gonna tell us which #1 is her most remembered WORLDWIDE and which ones are not when every song you've said so far is older than you? You're gonna tell us which songs are forgettable all the while listing songs older than your conception date? If that's not impact on the next generation.
Let's get into G0D her #1 single in 1997:
Let's get into G0D her #1 single of 1998:
Songs you remember despite being your age or similar, but yes keep spilling tea on how forgotten of a singer she is. Tell us more about her impact!
I am HOLLERING.
Who cares about his age doesn't mean what he is saying is not right if anything he would be a lot more valid than you. Since he didn't grow up in that time era and would have better knowledge as to which songs from past artists have aged well and are more remembered to a different group of people. AIFCIY is her most memorable songs, and he is right no one remembers all of her 31's otherwise than her fans. And on another note My All is not that memorable or iconic to me, and can you please stop calling her god. Her music is not that great for her to have a title like that.
1st 31 Sir Georg Solti
2nd 27 Quincy Jones, Alison Krauss
3rd 26 Pierre Boulez
4th 25 Vladimir Horowitz
How many of those 5 are known and what impact have they made together?
Well
Maybe Sir Georg Solti was a genius in interpreting symphoincal music, his tape of the Ring is the most known interpretion of Richard Wagner's music.
Maybe without Quincy Jones MJ hadn't win most of his Grammys. Maybe Alison Kraus is one of the most respected musican in the Bluegrass and Folk scene Robert Plant and ADELE adores her.
Pierre Boulez did revolutionize after the War the classical music and was in Bayreuth the conducter of the "Jahrhundert Ring"
Maybe Vladimir Horowitz was the best piano player of the last century. He was so different from us human beings that after his daughter died he didn't left his house for the next 15 Years without playing piano without hearing any music and then to come back on the stage to left the audiance in awe and tears for his last 20 years.
The Grammy voters are a bunch of old white men who like music that sounds 'old fashioned'. This is the only site I go to where people really consider Grammy's that much of a respect.

The average person is suppose to know him?
Considering that "Ride of the Valkyries" is one of the most iconic pieces of music of all time... yeah.
And before you say you don't know it, listen to this and TELL me that you haven't heard it somewhere at least once before:
18 #1's, imo Grammy's aren't even that important anymore. All you need is one. The general public is going to remember there hits so its useless to have so many. I guess its nice to say you have so many but doesn't adele have like double the amount of grammy's janet, mariah, and madonna do. It aint mean sh**.

According to you, I know in Egypt people use "My All" for weddings and events like such (according to a friend that lives there) and for you to say her music is not great That's your personal opinion so stop acting like he/she should refer to Mariah accordingly to your views He/she isn't your representative so it really doesn't matter how good/bad you think Mariah's music is.
