I noticed many of them seem to think its this evil product spawned by the devil to destroy humans. I have to classes in college right now, and two of my professors go on and on about how the old ways are better, one even goes as far as to say that horses are better than cars, having a tv is bad, and etc.

I understand that some people go overboard with today's things like internet, but isn't it a lot more better in a way? Like less use of paper, which can slow down or end deforestation, quicker communication, an so on. I mean there's bad in everything but to go as far as to shut it off is annoying.

I go to a school that is WAY too liberal for my tastes which is why I plan to transfer, its in Upstate NY. One is an anthropology professor, the other is Western history so of course they'll think that.

I guess its just to do with their values and the way their lives were when they were our age. They didn't need it then so I guess then feel like technology is making our generation lazy.

Maybe it's just a preference. Most people are nostalgic for stuff from their past. Even teenagers and twenty somethings are nostalgic for things before they even become old, lol.

In any case, it's not all old people especially since you can probably find people your age who feel the same way, I believe.

Probably because they don't know how to use half of it.

Because they are nostalgic about a 'simpler time'.

Their upbringings and previous environments.

Someone who's lived with something for 50 years and then suddenly it disappears and gets replaced by something else that they don't understand will usually not like it.

But I find old people less fussy about technology now than they were 10 years ago. When I was younger in a lot of cases it nearly only children using certain technology. Like it used to be nearly only teenagers/young adults using social networking sites (like Myspace which was biggest at the time), but nowadays I see lots of parents, and even grandparents using Facebook.

It's a BIT EXTREME though that your teachers prefer horses to cars.

Technology has been around FOREVER. Lol. I just feel some people get by without a need for all the gadgets we've come to rely on. If they're afraid of them, maybe they should get some help.

But more people are using computers, more than ever before, and global paper consumption is still on the rise in comparison to before PC use became wide-spread. It's an interesting phenomenon to be sure. I tracked down the original Economist article, thinking that it recycled paper made up the bulk of what was consumed, but instead I saw a pictograph of the average amount of trees consumed per person on a countrywide basis.
