In Cyndi Lauper: A Memoir, Cyndi mentioned that Christina and Britney are like her and Madonna in the 80s and very different types of performers, but that it's BS when everybody says that Britney can't sing. It's just that she can't match the vocals on those records. Cyndi puts the blame on Britney's Swedish producers for making her 'stop at every word' and making her sound too "controlled" and says that she would have killed those producers had they done that to her.

Britney's fault for not having a say on her early music, so producers turned her fine voice into something she could never sing live. She could sing all of her early BOMT songs live.
Oh well, I guess she was too young and overwhelmed by fame to have a strong creative control.

Aren't you contradicting yourself though? You mention Britney not having creative control on her first albums, making the songs impossible to sing live, yet you say she could sing all of her early ...Baby One More Time songs live. For me, in the first few albums of Britney you can hear her voice clearly and she's delivering some great vocals which I would assume could be possible to sing live, yet on her later albums probably starting around In The Zone her voice on the studio albums is turning more robotic with Femme Fatale being the worst of them all, making it hard to replicate the songs live.

She's right but that's what made Britney's success, the dictinctiveness. Acting the songs rather than simply singing them, often practically impossible to replicate in live settings, for many simple reasons, which what some people don't (or don't want to) understand.
