Chastain's character might be "more ambitious" but what does that say about the performance itself? I even think Tiffany as a character was more complicated than Maya.
Emmanuelle was very good too but I preferred Jennifer on that one.

Umm, please tell me when have you seen a Maya on film? Few female characters are undependable of a man, ambitious. I guarantee you, Academy members didn't like Maya being dominant over men. Tiffany is like any other female character, she's looking for a man to define her life. Of course people love that. That + having Oscar scenes like the one on the diner, outside the diner, etc. made her win. But Maya was way more complicated and Riva's character, too. They were unique and while maybe didn't have Oscar worthy moments, they were more difficult to execute throughout. I'm not a hater, I actually love Jennifer and I think above all, she has a great personality and she's humble. I'm happy for her. I'm just saying if I were here, I wouldn't be too proud of winning an Oscar for that kind of generic role.
