Boy, 2, shoots self after finding gun in mother's purse
Quote:
2-year-old boy was shot in the head late Thursday night at a home on 2nd Street in Luzerne Township, Fayette County.
Investigators said
Owen Harris was rushed to UPMC Children's Hospital and is listed in critical, but stable condition
.
Police said
the boy accidentally shot himself after finding a gun, owned by his step-father, in his mother's purse.
According to police, charges are not being filed and the shooting was an accident.
Family members told Channel 11's Lori Houy that they are awaiting word from doctors to hear how the young child is doing.
"They just told us they are trying to get the swelling down and they can't really tell us anything because it's on and off."
"I was shocked and rushed down here to see what happened. Just what they're telling us [is] bits and pieces."
"I hope he's alright and can make it through. Everybody's praying for him."
"He's a good little boy. He likes to play and stuff."
Friends said the boy lives at the home with his mother
.

That's so horrible. I hope he makes it out without any serious deformities.
How irresponsible of his mother to make her gun accessible to her infant in any way.

Such irresponsible parents. A gun shouldn't be anywhere near a baby can reach.

Yeah and we don't have a gun control problem at all.
Does it really take our INFANTS shooting themselves for people to realize this?

Why did the mother carry a loaded gun in her purse and not think the child could get a hold of it? She is responsible imo..

I'm glad he's in stable condition, but that is so irresponsible of those parents!

Pretty irresponsible to have a gun so easily accessible, and worst of all to not have the safety lock on.

Im glad he is still alive. This is DISGUSTING and one of the reasons why the gun control problem needs to get sorted out ASAP.
