Not really. Churches have free right to do whatever they want, no matter what you have to say about them. They are specifically protected and promoted in the constitution. Basically, the weight of said words is different.

It's a lot different when you're being narrow minded and generalizing gays, because the government is going to turn around and say "Hey, you're right!"

Not saying either is right, but you are not being "just as bad" for saying things against the church.
