I'm not from the U.S but I know here in Australia. Children of illegal immigrants, usually receive citizenship when they turn 18, sometimes even earlier if the parents were successful with they're application for residence. This usually happens if the child was under 13 and it's usually to families who came here legally but overstayed they're welcome.

Yes, some people from smaller, poorer countries don't have the opportunities like others from more developed nations to file for residency or citizenship so they come here illegally for a better life. A lot of them pay their taxes and do everything right just so they could one day be given the opportunity to be citizens.

Obviously people who aren't "model citizens" shouldn't be given the same courtesy.

Children born in the U.S. are automatic citizens through "Jus Soli", whether their parents are illegal or not.

Not really sure where I stand on this issue. I get it, we did the same thing (sort of not really, we sort of killed them and stuff) with the Native Americans, but that was like forever ago and it's not like we can change it. Not to mention there weren't rules and regulations in place like there are today, so I really don't think that should be an issue.
I do think that maybe it should be a lot easier to obtain a green card. If they pay taxes and all that jazz, who are we to tell them they can't come in?

I'm talking about kids who were born in another country and moved to Australia when they were 13 & younger. If they are born in Australia and they're parents are not Aussie citizen they receive citizenship after they turn 10

Also illegals are willing to do jobs no one wants.

I don't think it's fair to the people who come here legally and work hard for their citizenship and take the tests, ect..so are we telling them all their hard work was essentially for nothing? It's just unfair. And I realize people come here for a better life and work hard, but you should do it the LEGAL way. If illegal immigrants are granted citizenship, why exactly was there a process to become a legal citizen in the first place?

Do you know how hard it is for people in poor countries to obtain a visa? It's almost impossible unless they have money.

When I was applying for my American visa for a short trip, because I am from the Middle East, there were at least 15 idiotic questions.

Are you a terrorist?

Do you financially support terrorist groups?

Have you ever participated in a terror act?

Do you wish to partake in a terrorism in the United States?

etc.

As if a terrorist would confess on a visa application. Applying for the visa made me realize how dumb U.S migration policies are, no wonder there are endless illegal immigrants.

My views are mixed. I think everyone is entitled to experience the best quality life that they can attain. It's understandable, as a lot of these people are fleeing war-torn countries. I don't blame them for trying to make a better life for themselves. That being said, it can be seen unfair to those who are waiting to be granted to live in this country, through perfectly legal methods. It's somewhat of a double-edged sword. I'm really on the fence with this one.

Sorry, I misunderstood your post. There's no similar path to citizenship here. The closest is a temporary residency that was recently allowed for kids who were born in a different country but attended some type of school here, so they can attend college. But I can't remember if there's a path to citizenship from that type of residency.

As mentioned before, it's very difficult to come here legally from poorer countries, especially Latin American countries. Even with the right kind of money, it's really hard to get a visa.

No. We need a new system for granting citizenship though, so that more people are allowed inside the US in an easier way.
