It may not generate the headlines, but the biggest news for me was the 8GB of unified DDR5 RAM, which is a huge leap forward from what developers had to work with on the PlayStation 3. This should give creators a fertile technological playground on which they can make impressive gains in not only graphical fidelity, but artificial intelligence as well

8GB of GDDR5 system memory – Eight gigs of ultra-fast internal RAM is much better than the 512MB that developers had to work with on the PS3. This is a huge win for creators. Along with the easy-to-use architecture, this should make PS4 much more developer-friendly than its notoriously difficult predecessor.

The silicon is pretty darn close to what the rumors had it pegged as, with the crucial exception of a full 8GB of super-high-speed shared GDDR5 RAM. That's absolutely huge, and should make it both easy to develop for (a massive improvement over the developer-unfriendly PS3 hardware)

To put things in perspective.... PS3 only has 1/16th that amount of RAM. Techies didn't even think this would be possible.

It really is, I gasped when they said they announced 8GB of GDDR5 ram, that's huge!

What I loved about the conference was really the specs and game services that they discussed. All of it has tons of potential, and it's just exciting.

Now they better bring it with the games at E3.

Yes, finally, things were getting stale with the dated Console technology of the PS3/360.

But mess @ the op is acting as if 8GB RAM is some sort of technological advancement pioneered by PS4 and innovative yet it's been pretty standard for PC's for YEARS. People have been pretty much spot on with guessing that 8GB RAM would've happened with the next-gen consoles, I don't recall people suggesting that it was some sort of rocket science.

Consoles are typically sold at a loss initially, as far as I'm aware. It won't cost that, I'm sure.

I believe what it's pretty amazing here about the 8 GB of RAM is its type. I don't understand much about this stuff, but from what I've read, GDDR5 is really fast. What this RAM does is offers 176GB/s bandwidth which is not possible in normal desktop systems.

No problem. I just hope the console won't cost much, since 8GB of this type of ram must be expensive. $400-$450 would be ideal, imo.

Sony already said they weren't going to have a big price, since they knew you could buy a smartphone (which can serve as a gaming device) for $200. It will probably be $430, just like the rumors said. Not to mention that the same source that leaked the $430 cost also leaked the controller and it turned out to be true.

Exactly. PC =/= Gaming Console. You can't compare the specs of a gaming console to a PC.

I think the reason for the big ram is because RAM tech is improving so fast that consoles might get outdated really quickly in just a year or two.

It's always a 'monster' spec-wise >_< for the generation. Let's hope they do something monstrous with it this time.

8GB GDDR5 is insane for a home console but congrats to Sony.

Even with Sony's usual mark down I doubt this machine will cost anything less than $599.

I know Sony has deep enough pockets to be loss leaders but anyone who thinks this machine will be ~400$ is fooling themselves. Especially not in a climate where competing tech devices like iPads and iPhones are easily selling at $500-800(off contract).

Monster specs, they're still boring as **** to play tho. Which is why people still rather PAY to use xbox online than fall asleep playing PSN
