And the mess between "Gangnam Style" & "One More Night" is exactly why this new rule was implemented. They knew GS was the more popular song despite its lack of strong radio support, but it missed out on #1 thanks to the radio smash "One More Night." But none of this changes the fact that "Gangnam Style" was cheated out of a #1 based on sheer popularity. Look for several more controversies with this rule.
I think so too. GS was way more popular at the time, but the rules focused too much on reflecting radio which isn't a good indicator since it's out of the public's control and compromised by radio deals.

But it's even worse now, you can easily control the views...
I'm all for using YouTube views, but it's such a heavy weighting. They need to come up with a better balance between sales, radio airplay, streaming, and youtube views. The fact "Harlem Shake" is outweighing "Thrift Shop" on the Hot 100 by 3.5x (despite TS selling twice as much) is quite ridiculous.
I love this idea, probably more artists are going to be motivated to make better videos since the voice of their fans is being counted through the views.

Basically this. Once everything is balanced out correctly it will go back to normal.
And the fact that "Harlem Shake" is #1 over the flawless Thrift Shop, despite the fact TS has bigger sales and about 100+ million on AI.
So many artists can kiss goodbye any #1 We're gonna see Katy, Rihanna, Bieber, One Direction, etc. hit #1 every single week from now on (no shade at all, just basic truth)
