She's not local. She's global. We understand that you can't admit that you were wrong about the direction you just knew she was going to go in (with your "sources") but it's simple (regardless of sales)
Mixtapes- were to prove that she could rap
1st album- was to prove that she could revive female rap with hip pop and crossover
2nd album- to go extreme and prove that she could rap, sing and make dance crossover songs and reach a global level doing both as this was never achieved successfully (at least she had high hopes). She wanted to sell 5M WW (because I believe the best selling solo female rap album by a rapper sold 4MWW...Lauryn hill's was an r&B record with only 3 rap tracks) but clearly that didn't happen. I'll spill the tea on that later since you made up some inaccurate statements. This was set to make her truly global and get her in arenas and advertisement/branding deals. Mission accomplished.
3rd album- providing a solid, cohesive album that fans know she can deliver and haters think she can't and some will be surprised when she does. Taking the journey from 1st and 2nd album: the highs and lows...the growth, development and creating stories and messages that are more thought provoking. This will be the album that gets her back on the right track with urban. The 4th album will be the masterpiece. The 5th I bet will be solid but not able to match the 4th but will be a decent swan song effort as she closes out her career with 5#1s, 100M records sold, grammy's, chart domination, tour domination, and branding domination before the end of the decade.

It appears the album was originally going to be a chaotic hip-hop album about Roman, but that concept changed around November/December 2011, when reaction to Nicki's buzz singles Roman In Moscow and Stupid Hoe was overwhelmingly negative, and she saw major success with David Guetta on Turn Me On.
It was decided to revamp the tracklist, and PF:RR's release date was pushed back from February to April, and Nicki began recording various demos brought into Cash Money through a trial A&R agreement with RedOne (which has since grown into RedOne becoming an Executive at Cash Money).
|
Tsk. Tsk. Tsk.
Wrong. Although it was going to be chaotic hip hop she was always going to infuse the Roman character more, she was ALWAYS going to have crossover songs as well. In her interviews in November 2011, she called RIM the whackest thing and just put that out as a teaser. She also mentioned that she was going for a more global sound that her fans will appreciate. Now you have been arguing about how certain songs are global and so against the hip hop. How could you forget about that unless you are just trying to spin it for your advantage.
Let ME take YOU to school:
She wanted to use the Roman character for her hip hop tracks + have the crossovers.
She released RIM and it went top 10 on itunes. She was surprised that it was loved. Instead of going in the direction of releasing VVV which she had a deal with Dr. Luke to release, she released Stupid Hoe. She even made a spiel about how she needed to do it as an artist. She felt comfortable doing that once she got wind of some Kim info and also seeing that RIM a song she thought was whack was well-received. Also, as she noticed Dr. Luke pushing her in the pop lane, she questioned it and used RIM as a reason. She trusted Redone and eventually wanted to use him for her 1st single. She released SH knowing it would get backlash but not THAT much backlash and then after releasing starships she went into the studio to replace the Roman character with more hip hop minus Roman. Why? I mean the fact that young forever and Marilyn monroe tracks leaked so early should tell you that it wasn't a last minute change. yet the urban tracks that she replaced didn't. As much as I love Nicki, I really think her K.O. of Kim gassed her up and made her think that she could dedicate a slew of diss tracks to her using Roman. once she got the crazy backlash + with Roman Holiday she went into to do HIP HOP that didn't include roman (hov lane, beez, champion).
She always wanted to prove she can do half pop/half rap with singing on both because no one was able to do it. Her problem was she tried to do half-Roman/half pop and people looked at Roman as a boastful SOB that needed to chill. When Nicki was putting out Did it on em, Monster, Roman's Revenge it was cute because she hadn't slayed Kim. Once you win, the last thing you need to do is boast because people get turned off. She misstepped and then tried to replace the rap side with quick lil diddies that were good but showed they were just rushed.
Note: I respect PF:RR for what it is. Had she kept the original concept with Half roman and his disses to kim/half pop then I wouldn't respect it as much. I'm glad she added Hov lane, Champion, Beez, Fireburns later on so that it wasn't too much Roman but she couldn't changed the title or it would have been too obvious in the change. I didn't respect SH until I saw the video and I completely understood why she put it out but I feel like she knew the backlash was coming and assumed she could handle it better and then we all know what happened. She went extreme and learned a lot of lessons and sometimes you have to go left to see. Few artists take that risk and even fewer have it pay off.

Division, how do you feel about the obvious shift away from Dancepop on the US charts?

oop...about time. The dance trend (which I love) tookover for way too long. Usually trends last a few years but this was like double the amount:
Early 90s: Dance techno
92'-96' Grunge and other rock incluences
94'-96' Hip hop
97'-99' Teen pop boy bands + spice girls
99'-01 Teen pop solo females+ boy bands
01-03 Adult contemporary rock/country and the Anti-Britneys
03'-05 Commercially success yet not nearly as good as 90s Hip hop
06'-07' Urban pop (Nelly Furtado, Fergie, Justin, Rihanna, Beyonce)
07'-13' and declining underground dance/ EDM/Dubstep and other EDM isms (thanks to Britney's Blackout/Freakshow and the whole sound, Rihanna's Don't stop the music, Gaga, Kesha, DJs that all of the sudden have hit songs and others)

I wasn't for Champion because i thought it would take I am your leaders shine. I still thought they would put it 2nd after beez but still wasn't for it. After seeing her win VMAs, AMAs and everything this past fall I started to appreciate Champion 10x more. It's in my current top 25 ipod now. I just wished she would have replaced that guy that refused to clear his throat before getting on wax and did a 2nd verse or at least had Tyga on it.

Reductive, i know that you are new but sip on my extra juicy tea...that is the truth. There was never a time where it was going to be hip hop dominated. Nicki thought she could do Half-roman/half pop even thought it's never been done successfully because she was gassed and feeling herself and learned a harsh lesson. People love the underdog trying to fight to the top but once you get there, the disses that seem par for the course come across obnoxious and boasting and bragadocious (sp.). So, she replaced half of the roman tracks, kept the best roman tracks and included more hip hop songs without roman and added more pop songs to what she already had to add a balance and a sound that was current. Nicki, I see you adding that house breakdown in Starships and Pound the alarm before Rihanna's Where have you been was officially released.

Tis true...I wished that would have been the first single but I respect Nicki for getting whatever she needed to get out of her system with SH.

This era would have been close to flawless with VVV as its start. Oh, what could have been:

Try HARDER next time.
And there is a shift.
Just look at the iTunes Top 100. Electropop is definitely less prominent than it was in 2010.

He's trying to deny it. LOL. Look at the top songs from the past few years Adele, We are young, Somebody that i used to know and then years before that Tik tok, Bad romance, LMFAO.
EDM will still be around but more soulful pop and more urban pop is on the horizon: Britney, Beyonce, Justin, Katy, Adele, Gaga will make sure of it.

That's good because I never understood the fascination until I saw the video. When I heard this replaced Save me because of Taylor I wanted to throw something. I then still hoped for a split Fly/Save me as Fly kept getting pushed back. Fly was meant for a spring release but well...the rest is history.

|
Never. Nicki needs to release in the 3rd quarter (for a longer shelf life) or 4th quarter (for high sales). She's not rushing. If she were still releasing full-fledged singles from TRU yes. If anything the time period from Jan-August with her only doing 3 features will serve her well. She's still relevant without overkill and building demand as AI, her continued branding and people getting over the 2012 I hate Nicki schtick now that they realize she ain't going nowhere. August with VMAs promo will be the perfect way to kickoff the era.

But i know that Nicki will break it very soon.

Unfortunately, I think last week was it's final chance. If it wasn't for Neyo's lame song, the one-hit wonder Psy, Maroon 5 and that overrated ASAP rocky song getting top 10 placement at moments where she could have at least peaked #10 then we wouldn't be in this mess. Alicia did all she could do. I'm hoping that the consistency of sales this week can make it happen but might be unlikely. Crossing fingers because last week was most likely it...this will is definitely it's last shot.

I like that idea of doing some dates in the summer but the momentum needs to come from a single. I think if she put out a song late July/early August it might work but then again, if album is released in
3rd quarter: she can tour some October, November, December dates in the States, Jan-March WW, Mar-May AI, then full summer N. American dates
4ht quarter: she can tour Jan-Mar in the States Mar-May live show AI, then summer WW dates, fall States again

Well, in 2009 I saw her homage pic to Lil kim's Hard core when people were making fun of her big fat...and a icy watch minus the icy watch though

I didn't think much of her and the bedrock thing was ok but when I heard her on Robin thicke's Shakin it for daddy and saw it performed on shows then I couldn't deny it. From there it was Itty bitty piggy and I researched her mixtape stuff. I saw her impact and added her along my past female entertainer trinity "Britney, Rihanna and Gwen" as Gwen was determined to not pursue her solo career any further

Still mad

Now the female entertainer trinity is "Britney, Nicki and Rihanna" and in that order...I have a female true singer trinity as well but that's neither here nor there.

She needs to debut some of her line. Great cross-marketing opportunity for her. Oop...perhaps that's why she is flying in those people this month pitch some ideas about the direction and she will also be deciding her looks for the live shows
