Champion and Freedom could be amazing urban records but they're too slow.

There is no shift away - 1/5 of the current Hot 100 is dance-pop/electro-infused - it's just diffused into a norm. And given there haven't been that many new dance-pop releases this past quarter (due to traditional seasonality), that's quite good.

Overall, dance-pop/electro/EDM has had some major recent major developments: Sony and Ultra Records combining, Universal Republic/Cash Money and their new mass signings, Capitol Records new A&R team, the new ClearChannel radio stations, Billboard's new dance chart, etc.

Just look at the iTunes Top 100. Electropop is definitely less prominent than it was in 2010.

I remember back in 2010 when I got Pink Friday and listened to Super Bass. I remember telling my sister to watch for this song and that it would be huge.

Ahh, I miss the Pink Friday era.

And thank God the basic dancepop is beginning to fade. All I hear on my "white people" radio is alternative, and the occasional 'Scream & Shout'
