I hope this isn't going to be in place of backwards compatibility. It'll be a nice feature if ur not lookin to fork out the money to buy the game itself, but i am gonna need to be able to play my discs.

The PS3 decided to slowly phase out the Emotion Engine that was used for the PS2. Early PS3s also had that chip, which was removed but emulated with the software, and then removed entirely.
Not sure what caused the trouble with some games, but it was a small minority that had problems and some games even had their problems fixed with firmware updates. I fagged out when i found out they managed to fix whatever problem Silent Hill 3 had.
