The core problem with this statement is that Beyoncé comes across as if she's above selling
"quick lil' singles," which contradicts her statement in the documentary about wanting to
remain "current." You know what's current? Selling singles. But what's more in'erestin'
is that Beyoncé puts out more singles during her eras than most/any pop artist(s).
While the majority of artists release between 1 and 3 singles per era -- 4 singles, if you're lucky
-- Beyoncé releases between
4 and 8 singles during her eras, INCLUDING music videos
for each release, mind you. So for Beyoncé to brush off the act of "selling singles"
is not only contradictory, but also
dripping with passive aggression.
Knowles arguably puts "more effort" into her multiple single releases and videos,
yet other pop artists seem to glide swiftly into the top ten. I have no doubt that
Beyoncé is "confused" by that fact, and that confusion manifested itself
in a passive aggressive statement about "selling quick lil' singles."
