People are extremely homophobic here it's a terrible place to live not just for gays but for everyone My twin sister had a melt down cause she couldn't stand living here. No opportunities and down right ignorant and stuck up people.

I live in NYC so it's supposedly not as bad as most places. I've lived here all my life so I don't really have any other frame of reference tbh. And it really depends where you are. In Manhattan you could go out in full drag and generally the worst you'll get are dirty looks. Same with displays of affection. I think l just because there are so many people trying to do their own thing here in the city, people generally content to ignore what other people do if it doesn't affect them.

It's a bit different in the outer boroughs and on the trains (probably because of the latter's enclosed space that creates tension?). Confrontations are still generally unlikely, but I've had my own less-than-savory run ins, even in my own neighborhood, but fortunately nothing violent (for now).

Like racism, there's still elements of it all over the city in varying degrees of visibility, but it's still a pretty chill place for most of the queer-identified if you're smart about it.

Despite my near-total conservative Republican town, it's virtually nonexistent. The odd "***" here, or "no homo" there, and that's about it - and nobody ever uses those seriously.

I live in Upstate NY. I've never seen really bad outright homophobia. When I was in HS there would be some of those douchey guys who would make gay jokes or whatever but nobody really cared or paid attention to them. People don't seem to notice or care when gay couples are walking around in public or whatever

People are tolerant, specifically at my school.

I live in Mississippi which is very homophobic. Mississippi is very discriminating to all groups if you're not a straight white male. It's horrible

It's pretty gay friendly. Not by a lot though. There is this QUUUUEEEEEN in my school and omg I don't understand how he has straight guy friends. He's so gay.

There's generally a "live and let live" attitude in Charleston.

It's like, in-between, here. Since there are different types of gays, people have different tolerance levels towards them. I mean, one of the most popular celebrities here in our country is gay, and everyone loves him.

In my school, straight men don't address gays insults. They're friendly and know that the gays are just normal people. It's really cool. I really don't sense homophobia, at least, from where I study.

Gays are like the majority here in Seattle so I legitimately never notice homophobia, at all. Growing up in L.A. during the late 90s and early 00s there was some level of homophobia but not much. Then living in Korea the LGBTQ community came up practically never but the interesting thing is that when it did, I noticed more of a genuine lack of understanding than negativity or disapproval. People were more curious to know about what homosexuality was than to ridicule it.

None that I have witness but I can tell you about my school. I go to an all male school so there is a lot of gay banter with consists of dry humping, hugs that last too long and ass groping. I swear I have to face my back against the wall when around some people because it gets too much. And these same people are not open minded at all, they say things like "I'm alright with people being gay, just don't do it in public"

It's ok, I haven't received hate since high school and those 3 guys all got fat and have kids now so I guess I won that.

I live in a multicultural area so some people really do think homosexuality is wrong because of their culture or religion but I have never heard of, experienced or witnessed any type of discrimination towards gays. I'm still a teenager though so most guys are really immature about the topic and it annoys me but what can you do?
