The reasoning behind it is not irrelevant. I come from a family with history of domestic violence and the reasoning is every bit as important as the act itself. What made this story newsworthy was not the fact that it was domestic violence, as that happens every day (unfortunately). It was newsworthy because of the reasoning the guy had for hitting him.
