Bandai has announced plans to revive its cult virtual pet brand Tamagotchi with new apps for iOS and Android devices.
Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. is an animal-rearing simulation based on the original Japanese toys, coming soon to Google Play and the App Store.
The application will include a 'Retro Mode' featuring gameplay similar to the original 1990s gadgets, as well as an updated mode of play with the option to save your progress.
Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. also features a range of mini-games as well as bonus wallpapers and themes to unlock.
"The original Tamagotchi was first released 16 years ago and took the world by storm. Everyone had a Tamagotchi and loved taking care of their digital pets," said Bandai in a statement.
"The new Tamagotchi app will feature the same gameplay you know and love with a number of exciting new features."
A release date for Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. is yet to be confirmed, but Bandai claims it will be available to download "soon".
I bought one of the new ones that came out a few years ago. I remember why I got rid of that mess original one. Ain't nobody got time for that cleaning virtual poop
