Yes, and it was repeated repeatedly in a nasty, superior manner and that's why there's an element of rubbing in the failure to do so.
Madonna is one of the most famous women to have ever walked the planet earth EVER that's why her numbers were above the SB average despite that not being normal. There's interest in her from lovers and haters alike. There may eventually be a SB that has higher ratings and therefore a HT show that has higher ratings but I don't think there'll be a HT show that gets 3 million more than the average for the game.
Both Madonna and Beyonce did a fantsatsic job, IMO. Madonna raised the bar last year - the production value was incredible - the use of it for marketing (new song, tour). Beyonce didn't disappoint this year - very good live vocals. They are both hard working women that put a lot of thought and precision into what they do consistently.
ETA:
I'm watching Madonna's half-time on YouTube right now. Loving it as much as I did last year. Beyonce fans are posting a ruckus though trying to belittle it. I'm sure Madonna fans may be doing the same at Beyonce's listing. Yawn.
