Madonna has "the most" classics, Whitney has the 2nd most, and Mariah/Janet can fight for 3rd place. Celine could have stayed at home

I've even heard it a few times when I'd listen to the radio at night. I think EY is a classic because the LaP era was so massive and this song was one of the staples.
You know I love ITG tho, still not sure about CFY but I see it's been covered a lot so I'll give you that one

It's Very subjective.
A person who grew up listening to R&B music will obviously have a longer list of classics for Mariah, Janet, or Whitney than a person who mostly listened to Pop music.
A person who grew up listening to Pop music will most likely have a longer list of classics for the women.
A person who grew up listening to Rock or Jazz music may have an entirely different list that we may look at and say "WHAT??!!!"
It depends on who is deeming the song a "classic" record. We can always assume what the majority of people would know or recognize, but it's still very hard to have a concrete list.
Songs like "I Will Always Love You," "Like a Virgin," and "My Heart Will Go On" are top-tier classics. Songs like " I Wanna Dance With Some Body," "

And was My All really that big internationally? It didn't go top 20 let alone Top 10 in a lot of bigger markets like Canada, Australia, Germany, or Ireland.

Ye, i'm including US too, but kinda not giving it a decisive weight.
I lived in lots of places ww including asia, eastern europe, western europe, right now uk, familiar with US market obviously.
My All is definitely her biggest and most recognizable hit ww and also the one which gets played a lot to this day. It doesn't matter whether it charted high or not. Most of country charts are not as elaborate as UK or US charts and biggest classics aren't always the chart toppers.
My All is a beautiful love song and got a timeless aura to it. I'm very confident with placing it as Mariah's #1 song ww despite it being probably not in her Top 10 biggest songs in US
Without You is pretty close though.

Replace Janet with Celine and you got it more or less right.
I don't know why Celine is so disregarded here. She has several classics thanks to all the romantic movies that her music is often featured in. Janet on the other hand, has none of the sorts.
My Heart Will Go On is obviously massive, but the Power of Love is huge too. It's instantly recognizable thanks to that movie. All By Myself is also becoming a classic thanks to Bridget Jones Diaries.

Celine classics - erm I only know that Titanic song
Mariah classics - only the Christmas one counts
Janet classics -
Whitney classics - I Wanna Dance With Somebody, I Have Nothing, I Will Always Love You, How Will I Know
Madonna classics - Like A Prayer, Like A Virgin, Vogue, Into The Groove, Material Girl, Papa Don't Preach, Holiday, etc etc etc there are too many to name
Obviously Madonna. Whitney's the only other one who has even a chance.

I agree with you that chart positions aren't the decisive measure in determining a "classic" song for an artist. Isn't Madonna's biggest song chart-wise Hung Up? But, LAP, LAV, Holiday, Vogue and Borderline are more classic, imo.
However, I can't get with you saying "My All" is Mariah's signature song. "Fantasy" another Mariah song was part of a very memorable scene in the movie, Rush Hour, a 244m grosser. I don't think either is her signature song. If I HAD to pick one it would be between Hero (it's probably her most covered song, ever) or Without You (also covered a lot.)
_
Madonna: Vogue, Like A Prayer, Like A Virgin, Holiday, BORDERLINE, Papa Don't Preach ( @ no one mentioning this one, yet), and give or take Material Girl.
Whitney: I Will Always Love You, I Have Nothing, Saving All My Love For You, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, and give or take The Greatest Love of All. (I didn't include, "I'm Every Woman" because Chaka's original is the classic one, imo.)
G0D: Without You, Hero, All I Want For Christmas Is You, Vision of Love, 3 way fight between, My All, Always Be My Baby, and Fantasy. (We Belong Together is not a classic, yet at least.)
Janet: Together Again, Rhythm Nation, That's The Way Love Goes, Nasty, and give or take, The Pleasure Principle. (I can't @ people coming in here with shade. EVERYONE knows at least one Janet song, or could recognize at least one, she was one of the biggest artists in the 90s.)
Celine: My Heart Will Go On, Because You Loved Me, The Power of Love, and give or take, It's All Coming Back To Me Now or All By Myself (the original is a classic, though.)

I AM SO SICK OF PEOPLE SAYING MADONNA HAS CLASSICS
Okay, to all you who are ADULTS and in your 20's, and were around when she had hits she may have classics to you, but they're not remembered! (With the new generation).
Us kids-teens do NOT KNOW ANY Madonna songs, the only one I even knew before ATRL was Vogue. Let's all be COMPLETELY honest that these classics ya'll keep giving her aren't known to this generation, and will therefore be not remembered in 20 years.
I'm being so serious right now, and not pulling the stan card. Where do these songs still get played?
For Whitney the only one that was constantly talked about BEFORE HER DEATH, was I Will Always Love You. I will give her that. The ONLY ONE I know for Celine that I just found out about was the Titanic one, tbqh if you haven't seen Titanic you wouldn't know it. Janet Jackson...her's is hard. Some people may know a lot from her being related to Michael, some kids today might not know any.
I'm being COMPLETELY honest with this one. Mariah ruled us recently w/ We Belong Together, Shake It Off, and Touch My Body #1's. Those are remembered by most kids! All I Want For Christmas Is You Always Be My Baby, and Hero are also probably known by most.
Mariah having recent hits is why she is remembered more to kids-teens IMO, which is all that matters since that is the current generation.

Even before I was a fan of Mariah I liked:
We Belong Together, All I Want For Christmas Is You, Always Be My Baby, Shake It Off, Touch My Body, and Obsessed.
She is here w/ out generation, most kids-teens were well alive 7 years ago when Mariah ruled and 4/5 years ago. If anything her music from that period will be more remembered than these hits from 20 years ago we already don't know.
I'm being honest.

See I'm not even 100% sure you're joking when you call Shake It Off and Touch My Body classics or think that us teenagers (including me) don't know 'Like A Prayer'. Lol.

Sorry I meant to write All By Myself, not My All when I was talking about Bridget Jones. I edited it long ago.
And Without You by Mariah is a cover on its own anyway. But her version is the most popular though. Hero is more of a english-speaking countries hit due to its lyrics which most of the world doesn't understand. My All on the other hand is melodically astronomical and truly stunning love song which doesn't need translation and it gets instantly recognized after the first 3 chords.
That font of yours though
I had to pull closer to the screen

Speak for yourself. Just because you're ignorant about Madonna doesn't mean other people are. I'm 20 and I grew up knowing Papa Don't Preach, Vogue, Like a Prayer, and Like a Virgin, and this is without any of my family being a fan of her.
Madonna gets more recurrent airplay too.

Precisely why this thread is stupid.
I can't at ppl in here saying Janet doesn't have classics.
Albums
Control
Rhythm Nation 1814
janet.
The Velvet Rope.
Songs
What Have You Done For Me Lately
Nasty
The Pleasure Principle
Control (a bit of a reach)
Rhythm Nation
Miss You Much (bit of a reach)
That's The Way Love Goes
Any Time, Any Place (on the R&B side)
Got Til It's Gone
Together Again
I Get Lonely (R&B side)
What's It Gonna Be?! (R&B/Hip-Hop)
All For You (debatable)
As toss ups - "Black Cat" since a lot of rockers cover this song, and "When I Think Of You" and "The Best Things In Life Are Free" since international fans say these are two of the songs they hear the most on the radio.

you're talking about a song that broke the record for all-time highest airplay impressions in the United States not once, but twice in a row. the same song went #1 in every territory that it could have, with the exception of Canada, Japan and New Zealand (spending 10 weeks or more at #1 in Denmark, Europe, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and Wallonia). it was also the highest-selling single of 1998. if, for some strange reason, someone hasn't seen Titanic, the odds of them being oblivious to SUCH a ubiquitous song are next to none.
