That isn't a fair statement and you know it. It is a VERY known occurence that these people's "beliefs" end up mangled in EVERYTHING even when others are respectfully ignoring it.

Maybe that's you. But the religious people I've know were far more open-minded than the agnostics liberals who do pretty much the same thing you claim.

You can NOT tell me you still don't see religion deeply rooted in american politics.
Edit: And do you mean athiest? I don't understand why an agnostic would ever go to great lengths to disassemble religion...

Yes, and that how America was built, and that's why it exists. Religion has always been an integral part of American culture. It would not be what it is (for better or for worse). The country was built by religious prudes.
But I'm talking about the bashing of religion that annoys, why can't people just practice what they want. It has never gotten in my way nor annoyed me.
And yes I meant atheist, my mistake.

But you just affirmed my point...
I'm saying that there are plenty of people who are respectfully ignoring religion, but it still manages to pop up into their lives. Not to mention all abrahamic religions call their members to preach and make disciples.
Yet of course, somehow they're the victims.

And maybe that's because you're privileged? The fact that throughout history and the present, religion has given people the "authority" to discuss other peoples lives as if they're debatable is the reason why it should be called out. Religion was the main topic of discussion when it came to slavery. It was also used in segregation as well but I wont count that because there's really nothing in the bible justifying segregation.
Hell, it wasn't even 100 years ago that it was illegal to live with someone of the opposite gender that you were not related or married to. The justification? The bible.

There's a difference between religion, and the corruption of it. Religion itself is a good thing, they're all the same when you get down to it. Its the people themselves who corrupt it. So don't blame religion, but blame the actions of the few individuals who decide to do wrong and tarnish the name of their religion. Also, many of these scriptures have been manipulated and changed so many times to fit the peoples ideals that many books like the Bible are not what they used to be at its original inception.
Also, religion is an important part of human history and society. Without it, we as humans would be in a far worse condition. If it were not for religion we would be in this permanent dark age of being lost. I'm just saying don't bash it.

Ya'll can continue to say whatever you want about Chrisitanity, but study after study has already shown they live longer, healthier lives, and have happier marriages than their non-Atheist counterparts all across the board.
Amen to the Good Jehovah. YES, Lord.

As someone who has read the bible many times in 3 different translations, I'd say religion is corrupt. But I wont digress into that, to prevent this thread being closed.
But I will say, if you're going to defend a religion and not its sacred text, your bias prevents you from actually seeing the whole picture. What is god without the bible? Also, the topic of this discussion was about "bible-minded" cities. Not necessarily "religious" cities.

You could say that about the holocaust though. I dont see why I should bow to religion because it's deep rooted in history. Hate, is also deep-rooted in history.

That's funny when different studies show Asians living longer, healthier lives. Most Asian countries have about a 2% christian population.

Religion is not corrupt. Honestly, they all say to love and have peace, it preaches good things. People are corrupt, and are evil naturally. Humans take religion as use it for their own selfish gain.
Think about it, religion has always been there. Every culture has it, even remote tribes right now have their own religion. Its something ingrained in the human mind to believe something, and to explain things that are much larger then them the best way they can. I'm not bringing things as grand as the Holocaust in this, humans have done much worse without religion being involved. Religion is too ideal for humans, just like communism is too ideal. If each human were to practice the true meaning of religion then we would be in a better world no?
And this debate goes well with the topic, its not off it.

The thread is about bible-minded cities. You've already refuted the bible. I guess we can agree then.
You're looking at the "bigger" picture of religion. Which is a different subject. I dont want to discuss it because when threads take a turn into that area they always get closed. I mean, unless you want to talk specifically about the bible and the religions associated with it; Christianity, Mormonism and Catholicism.
Edit: Also, your post goes well with the God Gene theory/conspiracy.

I hate when threads get closed. But I've never heard about that, I'll check it out.

^Samesies. It seems like anything that can possibly offend gets closed. But then again, that's subjective.

America is the most religious of all the first world countries. America is always ahead of other G-7 and G-20 countries when it comes to religiosity according to various surveys.
